4: Greenwich Peninsular O2 Arena public slipway

Situated just a stone throw from the O2 Arena is a wasted opportunity with the historic slipway along Drawdock Road as well as a very usable little bay, this slipway whilst clearly acknowledged as being a public right of way with superb road access cannot be used by the population of Greenwich because there is no parking available rendering it relatively useless. Greenwich Council would do well to insist that any further development in this area of Greenwich peninsular provides the vital parking so this much needed facility can be bought back into use.

After all if Greenwich Peninsular can be the centre for culture why can it not also be a centre for marine activity, there is certainly enough investment in the area and to have Greenwich encouraging marine use would certainy be in keeping with Greenwich's maritime past.

The vision drawing below shows how easily the slipways could be incorporated into a large modern development, using the river Thames for recreational boating does not mean you can't have development, both can go hand in hand.

The slipways can be seen quite clearly at the following google link

This picture of the slipway taken at high tide shows quite clearly the size of this important marine asset, it also shows the superb access with the large road leading up to it, the fact that the O2 Arena is in the background testament to the amount of investment in this area, all this slipway needs is a space for cars and boat trailors to park and then it is back in business.
