Blue container is for recycling:

• Plastic bags bundled together: supermarket, produce bags, bread bags, plastic wrap packaging
• phone books, junk mail (even window envelopes)
• Plastic
• Cans (aluminum and steel)
• Glass

Green container is for compost (food scraps):

• Fruit and vegetable scraps (fresh or cooked)
• Bread, pasta, rice, grains, cereal, baked goods, etc.
• Nuts, beans, seeds (including shells/hulls)
• Egg shells
• Coffee grounds, filters, tea bags (no foil or foil-backed products)
• Paper products (paper towels, napkins, paper plates, pizza boxes)
• Chopsticks and popsicle sticks
• Grass, leaves, yard trim, house plants, flowers

Composting and Rain Barrel Free Classes:

Free compost and rain barrel workshop/demo at Alpha Ridge Landfill and Robinson Nature Center.

You will also be able to get a free outdoor compost bin and rain barrels (for Howard County residents)

Compost bins need to be appropriately located in your rear yard, out of sight from the street.

Other items that can be recycled are:

- LOWE's recycle: CFL Bulbs, Batteries (Rechargeable batteries too)

- BestBuy recycle: Electonics (TVs, computers, cameras, phones), ink and toner cartridges, cell phones

- Alpha Ridge Landfill accepts and recycles: Styrofoam#6, used cooking oil
