River Oaks Neighborhood Association Board Meeting

Thursday June 19, 2008

7:00 PM @ Premier Pizza, River Oaks

Present: Jean, Laura, Mike, LeighC, Christine

  • Crescent Park

    • Park planning slides posted online Full Presentation (2MB) and Park Outline over Existing Buildings. 1000 units to be built, then will start on the park.

    • Renaming: two suggestions so far: "Crescent" or "River Oaks". Matt Kenaugh (sp?) at the Parks Dept. has forms for a voting application for the renaming, Jean will get us a link.

    • SCUSD meetings: Monday 7pm and Thursday 7pm, more discussion about NSJ, Mike and Jean will attend. So far the city has pledged $45 million towards schools; with this pledge plus SCUSD the per-unit cost that is now $3000 would double to $6000. The SJ Mercury has an article with more details. Also in discussion was the southernmost 15 acres of Agnews (along ROP) to be used for schools and parks, but this would require a commitment from the state.

  • Alviso Slough Restoration: Over 100 people showed up to the meeting, including a number of important politicians above the local level. Speakers were very clear that flooding risk should be addressed now. It sounded like "Alternative 5" was most likely, a $22M option. Decision to go forward will occur in December.

  • No RONA Board meetings in August.

  • There has been no progress on an Essex/Cadence traffic study. Likely concessions are lights Seely, Research, and Cisco.
