River Oaks Neighborhood Association Board Meeting

Thursday January 8, 2009

7:00 PM @ Premier Pizza, River Oaks

Present: Jean, Laura, Mike, Erik, Jim

• Upcoming Irvine Planning Director Hearing: Irvine had reserved more units in their PD-permit than they could actually fit on the site. This hearing is to un-reserve those units so that other developments may reserve them as part of Phase I. RONA has no issues with this.Also note that these units are going to be apartments but built to condominium specifications (eg washer/dryer in-unit, etc).

• Upcoming Essex Planning Director Hearing: Jean to acquire staff report.

• There will be an election on March 3 to attempt to recall Madison Nguyen (Councilmember, District 7) over the recent district-naming controversy. Ms. Nguyen has been supportive of RONA's efforts in the past, and our support on city council votes would likely diminish if she is replaced. Since the election will only involve District 7 residents, we can only observe.

• Need to spin up for elections in February. Laura to send out email to generate interest. Next Board meeting Feb 5th.

• Discussion of goals for 2009 followed, highlighting:

  • Neighborhood watch.

  • Another BRICC Award.

  • Campaign for membership involvement: emergency planning, park/traffic/retail planning, design committee, riparian corridor and levee access
