10/40 Window

In the late 1980's, Louis Bush coined the phrase, "THE 10/40 WINDOW". This refers to the area located from 10 degrees to 40 degrees north of the equator, which includes North Africa, the Middle East, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Cambodia, China, Thailand and several Eurasian countries.

Why the 10/40 Window...

There are many reasons why Christians should be focusing their prayers, sending their best missionaries, and giving their funds to this area of the world. 95% of the unreached people groups of the world live in the 10/40 Window. (An "unreached people group" is a segment of the population to which because of too few missionaries, the Gospel cannot spread along natural lines without encountering barriers of understanding, language, social hierarchy, politics, culture, history, geography, prejudice, etc. They have no community of Christians able to lead them to salvation or sometimes even to a slight knowledge of Jesus Christ).

It contains over 70% of the world's people, Less than half of 1% of all missionaries go to the unreached. The Church is sending less then 4,000 of its over 410,000 missionaries to this area.

Out of every $1,000 given in North American churches, the amount going to ministries reaching Muslims in the middle east is about 10 dollars. Think about that... we give about 1 dollars out of $1,000 to share the gospel to the billion Muslims in the 10/40 Window who will spend eternity in hell apart from Christ.

Almost all of the governments in this window are hostile to the Christian message. Poverty, starvation and political problems are daily occurrences in most of these countries.

Within this 10/40 Window, there are more then a billion Muslim's, nearly a billion Hindu's, and over six hundred million Buddhist.

Of the 55 countries of the world that are considered "Unevangleized"...

97% of these are in this window.

When we think of the poor, the really poor of this world, the 10/40 Window must be looked into. More than 8 out of 10 of the poorest of the poor live in the window.

In this window, about 10,700 children are born and 1,400 people die each hour without ever hearing the gospel.

The majority of people in this world are children... 3 out of 4 are hungry.

Over 100 million children are victims of child labor.

In Hinduism 33 million gods are worshiped, and 200 million cows are considered holy.
