Counseling is one of the 30 fastest growing occupations in the country. The faculty at RIC in counseling programs have been preparing mental health counselors in the state for over 60 years. You will enjoy our small classes and one-on-one attention from dedicated faculty members, many of whom are leaders in their field. Students who graduate from one of our counseling programs advance to work in many settings serving as advocates for people in their communities. The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and the Certificate of Graduate Studies in Advanced Counseling programs prepare individuals with the academic preparation to become licensed mental health counselors.

Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

With full CACREP national accreditation, this 60-credit Master’s program is designed to qualify students to become licensed mental health counselors. Students admitted into this program will be prepared with the coursework, practicum, and internship experiences to seek a license as a licensed mental health counselor.

Certificate of Graduate Studies (CGS) - Advanced Counseling

This post-Masters certificate program enables students, with a Master's degree in a related counseling area that is fewer than 60 credits, to obtain the needed credits for licensure as a mental health counselor. Core courses in counseling practica and internship (a total of 12 credits) will be required of all CGS students with other credits determined based on the needs of the candidate.
