Alpha Delta Kappa--Rhode Island Chapter P.O. Box 261, Albion, Rhode Island 02802

Alpha Delta Kappa is an organization of women educators that was founded by four women in 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri. These ladies realized that there were not many opportunities for women to network after school, so they established this organization to provide such an opportunity. The focus of Alpha Delta Kappa is educational excellence, altruism and world understanding through fellowship and friendship.

At present there are more than 29,000 members of Alpha Delta Kappa. There are chapters in all fifty states plus Puerto Rico. Internationally, there are chapters in Australia, Canada, Jamaica and Mexico. The organization has built or helped build schools in Viet Nam, Peru, and Haiti and purchased and outfitted a bookmobile for the Dakota-Sioux Native Americans in South Dakota. Other international projects include St. Jude’s Hospital for Children, the Alzheimer’s Association and for our convention in July, 2019, “Kids Against Hunger.”

Alpha Delta Kappa members combine their energies and talents to enrich people’s lives locally, too. This is achieved through thousands of community-based altruistic projects. In Rhode Island our primary causes are the Family Literacy Center in Manville, the Cumberland-Lincoln Boys and Girls Club and the Haven of Grace Women’s Shelter in Woonsocket.

In addition, there are many grants and scholarships offered on international, state and chapter levels. The attached page is an application for a Rhode Island Alpha Delta Kappa Foundation Scholarship. All directions are on the bottom of the page. In relation to providing your Social Security Number (SSN), just list the last four digits. You will only need to provide the entire number if you are a recipient of a scholarship.

Several scholarships are offered by International Chapter to sisters who are teaching. Other scholarships are available to students at the college level. ADK Foundation Scholarship is given each biennium to a worthy student selected by the Scholarship Committee. See link below for the application. The Sally T. Foster Scholarship is given out by Rhode Island College and the student selected is determined by their criteria.
