There are nine Flying Stars according to the Flying Stars Feng Shui or Xuang Kong. Each Flying Star has its traits and will bring forth value and setbacks when it resides in certain sectors.
For instance, the year 2020 ushers the Metal Rat with Star 7 occupying the central palace and presides over all matters. Star 7 is metal and it enhances creativity and innovativeness but it also creates havoc “robbery and heavy losses” in most aspects of life and business. As metal produces water, Star 7 churns out continuous problems throughout the year of Metal Rat especially financial losses. Metal rules health and mental issue such as related to our respiratory system and peripherals including the lungs, nose, throat, large intestine, skin and nervousness and anxiety. As Metal Rat is a warrior and the Grand Duke in 2020, the entire atmosphere is tensed throughout the year with great anxiety, physical and mental health and losses in various aspects. Individuals must stay calm, pay attention to our health and hygiene, must think positive and proactive to learn new skills to adapt to the changed or new environment.
Star 1 - White (Water element) personifies intelligence and prosperity. One White Star symbolizes charm and intelligent when all is well but it tends to become depressed when there are obstacles.
Star 2 - Black (Earth element) often brings illness, health problems, jealousy and indecisiveness.
Star 3 - Jade (Wood element) brings entrepreneurship and innovativeness to the fore. However, it also personifies arguments, lawsuits, trouble and damages if not properly managed.
Star 4 - Dark Green (Wood element) is a passionate scholarly star which symbolizes inspiration, examination and romance.
Star 5 - Yellow (Earth element) is a Disaster Star. It is powerful despite its benign appearance so it is best not to tap on the energy of the Five Yellow Star otherwise it brings all kinds of back luck, disaster, lawsuits and wealth loss.

The year of the Metal Ox is a year where we will reap results and rewards for our honest and hard work. As the Flying Star 6 dominates the central palace in Metal Ox in 2021, we will see a hive of activity in our economy with abundant harvest. The residing Five Yellow Star will bring obstacles to work and health especially the digestive system so we must watch our diet. Keep our hygiene level high and avoid deep fried and oily food. We must indulge in leisurely health activities even though we have heavy work schedule.
The governing Eight White Star brings wealth or windfall but we must be prudent in our investment and stay away from gambling.
South sector - Success, Brilliance
The One White Flying Star in the South sector in Metal Ox 2021 brings much blessings to our family with good opportunities in work or profession and business. For smooth sailing luck, we must maintain a positive mindset, be resourceful and innovative in our approach at work or in business. Be humble instead of being arrogant and refrain from arguments to avoid ruin in wealth. Also maintain a healthy lifestyle and have proper diet and rest. Plants for Good Fengshui
Plants are representative of Wood element in feng shui and it can help to contribute positive energy or qi (chi) that is essential for good feng shui. We can use plants to nourish or heal personal energy. As different plants bring different energy to the space so it is important to select the types of plants to bring lushness, vibrance and good health to out home.
Based on the Bagua or energy map, there are different sectors of the home and each sector will have specific traits of different elements that affect the family households. We can enhance the wellbeing by placing plants in certain sector according to the Bagua.

Rules of the thumb for good feng shui is choose live plants with strong healthy stem, big healthy leaves and bright colour flowers. As plants are Wood element they will thrive well in the east, south-east and south areas of the home.
Some of the plants that we can choose for good fengshui include Guan-yin bamboo or Lucky bamboo, Money tree and Money plants, Jade plant, Peace lily plant, Desert rose plant.
We can place Lucky bamboo or Money tree in the east and southeast fengshui areas of our home bagua. Lucky bamboo plants are considered as auspicious that bring good luck, fortune and wealth in feng shui. The number of stalks symbolizes different blessings, such as 5 stalks for the 5-element aspects that impact wealth, 6 for smooth sailing or success in good luck or 9 stalks to signify wealth and great luck.
Money tree with braided trunk and lush glossy leaves brings luck, attract wealth and prosperity. It is also highly regarded as an air purifier. Money plant is used to enhance wealth and prosperity and can be placed in area to enhance abundance such as in the southeast area of home or office.
Likewise, Jade plant can be placed in home or office as it is comparable to a magnet that attracts wealth, success and prosperity.
Peace lily plant with its big leaves and brilliant white flowers signifies peace, serenity and purity and it helps to bring good luck and fortune according to feng shui. It is suitable to place peace lily in the north or west facing windows away from direct sunlight. Peace lily plant benefits from indirect sunlight.
Desert rose plant (fuguihua or wealth plant or Adenium) with red or pink flowers are favoured as they represent luck and prosperity for good feng shui.
We should not put dead or dying plants in our home or outside our home as they are bad for feng shui because they generate a lot of negative energy which affect the health and wealth of the people in the household. Likewise, avoid plants with thorns as they represent negative arrows.
Aloe vera plant with big succulent leaves give a vibrant protective energy to the space. However, it is regarded not so suitable for feng shui even though it is best known for its ability to remove toxins and it produces oxygen in the night like neem, orchids and snake plants. Likewise, Ficus Ginseng is air purifying plant and it is great for physical health but is not considered good for fengshui by some because it is normally pruned to develop its bonsai shape.
Besides dead or dying plants, we should avoid fake or plastic plants, Tamarind, Cotton plant, Babul plant, Mehendi plant, Willow, Bonsai, Oleander or plants with sharp energy or “sha qi” like cactuses.
To reap the benefits of good feng shui from the plants, we can place good plants in our favoured Bagua sector. We must ensure the plants for good feng shui are well taken care too, with adequate water, sunlight and plant food nutrients (with proper NPK and trace elements). Check with the florists or horticulturalists if you are unsure about the NPK ratios. For those with big garden or elaborate landscaping, consider consulting professional arborist about specialized trees care because well- cared trees and landscaping are attractive and can add considerable value to the home/property.
In addition of choosing the plants for good feng shui, remember to remove dead or dying leaves or plants to keep away negative qi that may affect the health and wealth being of the household. Regardless the trees / plants are placed in the home or outside the home, we must keep the sector or area (of the plants) neat and tidy to attract good qi and enhance vibrance, good health and wealth for the home.

Enhance the Dining Room with Feng Shui
The dining room is a room meant for consuming food and dining is one of the vital activities of a household. So it is important to have had a proper dining table with a number of dining chairs to enable the family to enjoy eating and foster harmony in communication and relationships within the family.
In our present era, the dining room is usually adjacent to the kitchen for convenience in serving. For some people, however, meal time means eating and watching television or busy with their computer work / games simultaneously, in any part of the home including in the bedroom! Such dining habits should be stopped as they bring about indigestion and poor health and eventually wealth too.
1) Location of dining room
The dining room should not be placed in front of the main door. Likewise, the dining table should not be placed facing the toilet as it receives a lot of Yin qi and can create negative impact on our health.
We can merge the dining room with the living room if we have space constraint in the house. However, do take note that dining table being placed in the kitchen or near the kitchen receives a lot of yang qi and can cause the diners to have quick temper.
2) Electrical appliances
Air conditioners and fans should not directly above or facing the food for good health. Computers and peripherals including games programme should not be placed in the dining room. If the electronic gadgets must be in the dining room, remember to switch off during dining time to facilitate communication among family members during meals. Light music will be good but don’t turn the dining room and dining time into gaming room or gaming while eating.
3) Lightings
The dining room should be lit, some do with crystal chandeliers above the dining table that signifies grandness. However, make sure the chandeliers are not overly huge or overbearing.
4) Size and material of dining furniture
The dining table should be a fixture rather than the extendable type as it signifies solidity in career. Ensure there is no beam above the dining table or any dine-in family sits under the beam.
The dining table should be able to accommodate six seats or eight seats and also spacious enough for elbow movement that symbolizes room for abundance. We should not use the dining table as a partition between two rooms.
The dining table should be made of marble or wood instead of glass as glass is breakable and that signifies hurting our career too. Rectangular tables are preferred as they represent growth energy and facilitate potential for personal development and abundance. The dining chairs should come with arm rests with enough room space for comfort and to signify security. The arm rests, however, should not hinder the dining and blocking the qi flow.
Some of the art décor or ultra-modern dining furniture looks dainty but they are not so suitable for dining as they lack the solid abundance of good Feng Shui.
5) Arrangement in dining room
Do not lean one side the dining table against the wall merely for support because this signifies work pressure. To signify abundance of wealth, we can display images or hang pictures of rich crop harvesting opposite the dining table.
Avoid hanging mirror directly opposite the dining table as it affects the stability of your career with reflections of temporary fullness and richness interspersed with prolonged ”nothingness” on table. Fresh fruits or bread can be put on the dining table after meal time. However, it is not advisable to put medicine on the dining time all day as it symbolizes poor health of the family.
6) Decoration & Colour
Draping the dining chairs with satin brocade though looks good but not suitable for Feng Shui because they look unsightly when they are soiled.
The colours that are very dark or loud (such as black or bright red) for the dining furniture draping or for the dining room should be avoided as they are too strong in yang qi and affect the temperament of the family.
We encourage everyone to eat healthy food in the dining room that has proper furnishings which enhance good or balanced Qi circulation.
Bedroom Arrangement using Feng Shui
The following is a simple and effective guide to create and enhance chi balance of your bedroom for a good sound sleep that is essential for good health to you and your family. Good health is wealth so enjoy treasure it.
1) Bedroom Hygiene
As bedroom is the place where you have good rest after a day’s work, you should not put work-related equipment and electrical appliance in the bedroom. Do not use your bedroom as a storage area too.
You should keep your bedroom clean and tidy. Do routine cleaning of your bedroom particularly underneath the bed and dressers to clear or remove all clutters and unwanted items as they trap dirt and dust over time that create stagnant chi. You should also keep your clothing neatly in drawers.
2) Wall Colour
Choose colours that are soothing, soft and restful such cream, soft yellow, off-white, peach or pale pink for your bedroom. Loud, bright or brilliant colours like red, orange, violet should be avoided as they stimulate your brain to function harder and affect your sleep.
If you wish to select wall art, you should choose subjects that are happy and relaxing. Do select the images or themes in twos such as two mandarin ducks if you wish to promote romance and harmonious atmosphere. Water features or waterfall images or pictures should not be placed in the bedroom unless you want a sleepless night or poor wealth.
3) Electrical and Electronics Gadgets
For reason of good sleep and good health, you should not turn the bedroom into a work station or play station or put all things “under one roof” to optimize space. You should not place computer, laptops, tv or hi-fi or microwave oven in your bedroom because they emit electrical current that can disrupt your sleep.
If you have no choice but to keep the electrical or electronic gadgets in your bedroom, you must switch off the appliance, close them after finished using and store them in drawer for the night.
4) Bed Placement
The ideal place for your bed is diagonally across from the door as it gives you privacy. Avoid placing your bed in front of or underneath the window as the chi that flows through the window affects your sleep. In addition, ensure your bed is not placed underneath an exposed or overhead beam, lights or ceiling fans. Also ensure you are not sleeping directly under a slanting canopy or your bed is sharing the wall by the bathroom.
You should be sleeping on the mattress on the bed instead of mattress on the floor because it crosses the main chi energy pathway.
5) Bedroom Furniture & Mirror
Keep your bedroom neat and tidy with essential furniture. Do not clutter your bedroom with too many furniture.
If you wish to place mirror in the bedroom, please do so with discretion; you should ensure the mirror is not directly across your bed or over your bed. It should not reflect the bed as it invites third party to your marriage or relationship and also it can startle you when you get up in the night.
If your wardrobe or door or dressing table has mirror insets, you should ensure it does not reflect the bed and cover the mirror when you want to sleep.
Feng Shui Applications
You may consider placing some items to enhance your good health or wealth. Statues like an elephant or a pair of elephants bring good luck, protection and strength. Elephants are sacred animals in feng shui application and they also symbolize longevity, good fortune and wisdom.
There are many applications of the use of statues too, such as placing a monkey on a horse or placing a statue of a frog on an elephant or a monkey on an elephant in the North promotes career stability.
