Time: prep time for make-up, hair and warm-ups will be from 4-5pm. The audition will begin at 5pm and usually takes 60-90 minutes. Results will be announced as early as the following day.
The audition: all students including those currently in the advanced/performing group will audition. The top 12 females and 12 males will earn their spot in next year's advanced/performing group. You will be assessed by a panel of folklórico dancers from the community on two dances. Judges will score on a 5-point scale each dancer's (A) grace & posture, (B) Smile, Eye-Contact & Energy, (C) Skirt work/Hand Position, (D) Choreography [sequencing of steps, transitions & rhythm/timing], and (E, F, G) three steps from the dance for both dances in the audition.
Workshops: Attend after school folklórico workshops to learn the dances, refine your steps, skirt work, and stage presence. Current dancers will also be at the workshops to prepare for the audition and help hopeful dancers. It is recommended to wear clothes appropriate for physical activity and for girls to have their hair up in a tight bun. The workshop and audition schedule will be posted. Any further questions?
