The name of this issue is Ohio, and that title is also the title of a poem by CL Bledsoe which appears herein. Beginning, I believe, with Issue 3, The Radius of Salvation, all issues of Right Hand Pointing have been named this way: After I assemble the issue, I read through it and I wait for the issue title to jump off the page. It's not necessarily the coolest or prettiest word or phrase in the issue--and one would hope that "Ohio" is not the coolest or prettiest word or phrase in this issue. It's just the word or phrase that strikes me.
I haven't spent much time in Ohio. In 1982, my wife and I were living for a year in Charleston, West Virginia while I did my clinical internship at the medical center there. We took a weekend trip to Cincinnati. Kind of liked that town. Enjoyed the zoo, I remember. I do recall that Marilyn, Mrs. Right Hand Pointing, who was pregnant at the time, got a little green around the gills when we were going through an indoor exhibit and realized that the vampire bats we were looking at were circling a little dish of blood and lapping it up.
But, back to the name "Ohio." The names of the United States are often beautiful.
Here are the most beautiful state names
Arkansas
Colorado
Florida
Hawaii
Idaho
Indiana
Illinois
Iowa
Montana
Nevada
Ohio
South Carolina
North Dakota
Tennessee
I will await your emails of protest.
