DAEDALUS AT SICILY 

With crazed wonder, every day,

the old man watches the birds

who come close to Apollo’s temple

until the sun grows tired of shining on him.

But when the sun is especially hot,

he saunters the beach instead,

staring southeast and sobbing

for reasons he no longer understands.
