I fast while I sit

behind the wheel of my cab

for twelve hours

at a time.

The heat 

sunlight 

traffic 

hatred 

all tie my 

stomach in knots.

I fast while I sit for those

twelve empty 

hours. 

Then I go home 

and eat

standing up.
