Professional Development Agenda
Week Two
July 12, 2010
8:00-9:30
Room 310 INV - (3rd Floor of Center for STEM Ed Building) - Campus Map
OBJECTIVE: To work collaboratively with your colleagues and develop your ideas about a lesson you plan to produce at the end of the summer RET program.
Please watch this video about collaboration
Please be ON TIME for this event
No coffee or breakfast will be available (there is a coffee shop - Peet's Coffee - at the street level of this building)
Please plan accordingly - inform your lab that you will be showing up later than usual
We will be working in small groups of three/four individuals that teach the same content area (as closely matched as we can). You should come with a synopsis of your laboratory work thus far as well as your ideas for a lesson plan (see the RET Weekly Journal Prompts). Also, you want to be ready to assist others in exploring ideas about their area of interest in lesson development. This collaborative activity should be productive for you as well as the members of your group. I would ask that you spend no more than 30 minutes discussing each person's individual lab/lesson. This will allow us to summarize ideas from all the groups at the end.
The goal of TODAY'S activity is to narrow down a goal or objective around which you would like to focus your lesson plan. Instructional pedagogy calls this the backward design process. Start with the target, then build the lesson to support that learning objective. During the week following this meeting you will have time to flesh out and get additional resources, activity instructions, protocols, multimedia resources, etc., for your lesson. You can use the word lesson plan template found on your Google Site to fill in this information. Examples of finalized lesson are available in your binder as well as the following Lesson Plan Website. Feel free to look at what others have developed.
