Professional Development Agenda
Week Three
July 19, 2010
8:00-9:30
Room 310 INV - (3rd Floor of Center for STEM Ed Building) - Campus Map
OBJECTIVE: To work collaboratively with your colleagues to review a lesson you plan to produce at the end of the summer RET program. The primary focus of this session is whether INQUIRY is incorporated into your lesson design.
Please read this short summary and article (optional if you already are inquiry-based) or this article (Community College Faculty may appreciate this article more) about inquiry in the classroom
Please be ON TIME for this event
No coffee or breakfast will be available (there is a coffee shop - Peet's Coffee - at the street level of this building)
Please plan accordingly - inform your lab that you will be showing up later than usual
We will be working in small groups of three/four individuals that teach the same content area (as closely matched as we can). You should come with partically complete lesson plan template for your lesson (see the RET Weekly Journal Prompts). Also, you want to be ready to assist others in exploring ideas about their area of interest in lesson development. This collaborative activity should be productive for you as well as the members of your group. I would ask that you spend no more than 15 minutes discussing each person's individual lab/lesson. This will allow us to summarize ideas from all the groups at the end.
The goal of TODAY'S activity is to incorporate INQUIRY into your lesson design. You can refer to the previous short digest on inquiry to assist you in your lesson design. During the week following this meeting you SHOULD complete getting additional resources, activity instructions, protocols, multimedia resources, etc., for your lesson. Examples of finalized lesson are available in your binder as well as the following Lesson Plan Website. Feel free to look at what others have developed.
