Nicholas Kristof

Nicholas D. Kristof is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and coauthor of five books, including TIGHTROPE: Americans Reaching for Hope, released in paperback Fall 2020. Previous titles include: A Path Appears, Half the Sky, Thunder from the East, and China Wakes. He and Sheryl WuDunn were the first husband and wife to share a Pulitzer Prize for journalism, which they were awarded in 1990 for their coverage of China, as well as the 2009 Dayton Literary Peace Prize for Lifetime Achievement. Now an op-ed columnist for The New York Times, Kristof was previously bureau chief in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Tokyo. He won his second Pulitzer in 2006 for his columns on Darfur. Kristof lives near New York City.


Sara Hickman

2010 Official Texas State Musician Sara Hickman has been recording, performing and touring since 1988. With over 20 albums, two appearances on the Tonight Show and multiple awards for her songwriting and philanthropy, Sara is internationally known for her Grammy nominated and award-winning pop/folk music. Through her music, Sara has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for a multitude of non-profits.

Sara has acted in films, on stage, and sings national commercials, including 12 years with Popeye’s – yes, that’s her singing! – and she teaches classes on songwriting, creativity, the music industry, and enjoys being an inspirational speaker.

Growing up in Houston with visual artists for parents, Sara graduated with a BA from the University of North Texas in painting. Sara worked as a professional music and art therapist, receiving a lifetime achievement award from The National Association of Music Therapists.

Joanne Carter

Dr.. Joanne Carter is the Executive Director of RESULTS, supporting a movement of passionate, committed everyday people who are using their voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to poverty. Under her direction, RESULTS leads advocacy campaigns to create more equitable policies and drive billions of dollars of government investment toward the highest-impact solutions to poverty.

Joanne joined RESULTS as Legislative Director in 1992, was appointed Associate Executive Director in 2007, and became Executive Director in 2008. Under her leadership, RESULTS has grown to include chapters and grassroots volunteers in every state in the U.S., with advocacy partnerships around the world.

Joanne holds a DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degree from Cornell University and was a practicing veterinarian from 1987 to 1992. She has served as a VISTA volunteer and as a recruiter for the Peace Corps. Prior to joining RESULTS staff, Joanne served as a RESULTS volunteer Group Leader and then Regional Coordinator for four years in the New York City area.
