Over 3,200 Canadians are diagnosed with oral cancer each year.

Oral cancer is the 9th most common cancer with a poor 5-year survival of 32-65%.  As of 2011, it is estimated in Canada that 3,600 will be diagnosed with this type of cancer and 1,150 will die from it. Despite the enormous amount of literature documenting all aspects of oral cancer, the survival rate has remained unchanged over the past few decades.

The Oral Cancer Research Lab focuses on a spectrum of initiatives to improve survival, quality of life, and clinical management of patients live with oral lesions or cancer. From early detection of premalignant lesions to control the recurrence of  malignant lesions, to detection of distant metastasis, and to monitoring patients' post-operative quality of life and indirect costs to the patients. Our lab is located at BC Cancer Research Centre, Vancouver, BC. With a team of hard working research staffs, our research stems from clinical trials, genetic and molecular studies, retrospective studies, to community-based studies for the prevention, evaluation, better management and effective treatment of oral diseases.
