If for some reason you are unable to participate in on-campus experimental research (e.g., religious beliefs, illness, unavailable timeslots), you may complete an alternative assignment according to the guidelines. This assignment involves summarizing the methodology and findings of a current, peer-reviewed published research article on psychological research, of your choosing. We recommend using the library database.
This is the LINK to the guidelines and the form for the alternative assignment. To save the file, please click "File", then "Download as" and "Microsoft Word (.docx)”. Make sure to carefully follow all of the guidelines in order to obtain credit! Completing a different version of the assignment will not suffice, nor will you earn partial credit for doing so. Submit a copy of the article and your summary to researchcmc@gmail.com.
Avoid common mistakes. Be sure to:
Be familiar with due dates.
Submit both the written summary AND a pdf of the original article
Submit the assignment by 5 pm on the Monday of the last week of classes (no exceptions). Plan ahead for any chance of technical difficulties.
Not change the font type or font size, or make any other modifications to the assignment form. This will result in an automatic 0.
Not write 1.5 pages thinking it counts as one full credit -- one credit is two or more full pages; 0.5 credits is at least one full page, but less than two. Modifying the document or changing your font size will earn a 0 and you will no longer be able to resubmit a summary for that article. See also the section on plagiarizing.
Plagiarizing. Trying to reusing previous summaries written by yourself or another student is in violation with the academic integrity policy. If attempted, you will be reported to Academic Standards at your school. Your assignments will be submitted to turnitin.com and checked for plagiarism. If you plagiarize, your work will be submitted to the Academic Standards committee as academic dishonesty, which may result in suspension or dismissal.
