Contraceptive methods include
1. mechanical barriers to prevent the sperm from coming into contact with the ovum, e.g. male condom that is worn over the penis and diaphragm that is worn over the vagina.
2. preventing implantation e.g. insertion of intra-uterine device at the uterus.
Above: Insertion of Intra-uterine device at the uterus to prevent implantation of embryo.
2. delaying ovulation e.g. use of contraceptive pills
3. surgical methods such as vasectomy and ligation which are illustrated below.
Vasectomy - Sperm ducts are cut and tied to prevent sperms from being released out of the body.
Ligation - Both oviducts are cut and tied to prevent the ovum from fusing with the sperms.
