Mentoring Experience

The ability to communicate effectively is crucial to scientific leadership and it is a skill that I continue to refine. My laboratory participated in the Summer Student research program at Einstein and I enjoyed working with these students as a mentor. This program gave me the chance to motivate aspiring students to pursue science and as a mentor I also had the opportunity to teach. I find that in teaching, I often learn as much as my mentees.

Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory

Student Trainee Supervisor. September 2015 - August 2016.

Provided professional development support and training to an undergraduate summer student as she transitioned and worked as a full-time research trainee in the laboratory. The student moved on to begin her own graduate studies at Stony Brook University in 2017.

Undergraduate Summer Student Supervisor. 2014 - 2017.

Coordinated the introduction of undergraduate summer students to cognitive neuroscience data and analysis and served as primary supervisor through the summer. I also mentored students each year through successful completion of a scientific abstract and poster presentation at the Summer Student research poster session hosted at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Host, Grant Writing Workshop. November 29, 2017.

Worked with a team of co-hosts to lead a discussion on grant writing and grant application strategies for students taking the Systems Neuroscience course as well as PhD candidates and Postdocs from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Community at large.

Graduate Teaching Assistant, Systems Neuroscience. March 2015 - July 2015.

Supported Einstein graduate students taking the Systems Neuroscience course through discussions aimed at addressing questions related to course material and the students final project (a grant based on a topic from the course). I also provided technical support to professors in the distribution of feedback and grades to students.

Bowdoin College

Mathematics Department

Statistics Associate. October 2012 - December 2012.

Provided support and tutoring for statistics students including the use of the R statistical programming environment and homework help.

Information Technology

Student Services Specialist. September 2011 - December 2012.

Provided technical support to Bowdoin College students to resolve non-hardware related computer problems including resolution of student computing and networking problems. I advanced to a training role during my time in this position and provided on-site training to new student employees in collaboration with my supervisor.
