Potassium helps to decrease blood pressure, and may protect from strokes and from sudden death from a myocardial infarction ("heart attack").  The link below provides information on potassium content of many foods.  If you have kidney damage, whether from diabetes, high blood pressure or any other cause, check with your doctor before altering your food-related potassium intake.
