Dear Religious Ed Families,

I hope this email finds you and your loved ones healthy and safe.

We did just send out our re-registration forms (blank registration forms for new children) for the 2020-2021 school year.

There are so many uncertainties about what will happen in the upcoming months. One thing is for sure, we need God in our lives and our children need to learn about God’s love for them.

I wanted to assure you that we will have a program in place to teach your child at their appropriate age level. I am investigating a Sadlier Program that is called “Christ in Us” for grades 1 through 6. This series has many online components that can be used if we need to be home based for awhile. This is a work in progress and the details will be explained to you if our program has to be modified.

The 7th graders will start their preparation for Confirmation and use the Sadlier Book, “We Live Our Faith: Catholic Identity.” The 8th graders will continue their preparation for Confirmation using the video program, “Chosen.”

As partners in faith with you, we will make this program a rewarding and nurturing experience for you and your child. We will keep you informed as plans unfold.

Please make sure you register your child/children as soon as possible. We do need to order the books and recruit teachers for next year.

Thank you for entrusting us with the forming of your child as a Follower of Christ.

Stay well and sane!

God Bless!

Mrs. Pellegrino

As of March 15, 2020, the Centers for Disease Control announced that it is recommended that all events involving 50 people or more be suspended or postponed. In an effort to promote the health and safety of everyone (clergy included), the Diocese of Rockville Centre announces the following measures:

Beginning today, Monday, March 16, 2020 at 3:00 PM, all Masses (weekday and weekend), liturgies, devotions, meetings, and non-essential activities are suspended or postponed through Tuesday, April 14, 2020. This will include all Holy Week and Easter Liturgies. Reconciliation Monday is also cancelled. Confessions may be heard as needed, exercising prudence and common sense. A safe distance is to be maintained (6 feet is recommended).

Confirmation is postponed and look for further information about First Communions

Funerals and weddings are permitted if necessary, but must be limited to immediate family and remain under 50 people in attendance. Baptisms should be postponed unless absolutely necessary and should observe the same limit.

Priests may continue to administer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick as needed with prudence and common sense. However quarantines, even at home, are to be observed. Pastoral care will be offered over the phone whenever possible. If anointing is needed, latex gloves are to be worn for anointing (only one person per set of gloves) and, if used outside of hospital settings, buried after use.

Mass intentions will be fulfilled by offering private Masses.

Our Catholic School is closed through March 27, 2020, following the measures taken by Nassau and Suffolk public schools. Our parish Religious Education has concluded its program for the school year.

In addition:

Cath olic Faith Network (CFN) will provide televised and online daily Masses, including Holy Week and Easter Liturgies, as well as other devotional and spiritual programs. (Optimum channel 29/137, Verizon FiOS TV channel 296, and Spectrum channel 162/471.) CFN is also available on selected cable and satellite systems and through 24/7 live stream at CFNtv.org. You can also watch CFN on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android, or by downloading the CFN iOS mobile app at the app store by searching “Catholic Faith Network” or “CFN”.

If you have any questions please call the Rel Ed office at 538-7460.

DVD's for 2018 Communion and Confirmation for those who did not pick them up can be obtained from the Religious Ed. office at the beginning of September 2018.

"You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

(Matthew 22: 37-

Following these words of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and the Parish Mission Statement, the staff and students of Saint Thomas Religious Education will commit themselves to live and bear witness to the word of God in our everyday lives. By respecting the dignity and rights of others, attending Mass, praying and participating inn community service we will be following the greatest commandment, the Law of Love.
