Unit 1 - The Basics
This unit introduces the students to the A+ Computer Repair course, the basic skills a student should have before taking this course, and the content of the course. Students will learn how to use the simulator to complete the lab exercises. This unit also examines the basics of being a PC technician; personal safety, tools used for computer repair and maintenance and how to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
Objectives:
Students will be able to:
Read simulated component documentation and view components to make appropriate choices to meet the scenario
Add simulated computer components to the bench
Attach simulated cables
Use the simulated Windows desktop to complete software configuration tasks
Use an anti-static mat and strap to protect against ESD
Implement appropriate grounding procedures
Utilize good communication skills in IT situations
Use a systematic approach to problem solving
Students will know:
How to protect against electrical shock and burns
Handling procedures for dangerous materials
Cautions to be aware of while working with monitors, power supplies and batteries
Devices and components used for computer repair and maintenance
Measures to protect against Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
How to properly dispose of equipment and hazardous chemicals

Unit 2 - Motherboards I/O Ports and Internal Components
This unit discusses details about motherboards and I/O ports. Basics discussed include: Concepts covered include: Common types of ports and connectors, Processor interface, Memory modules, Expansion slots, Onboard components, Faceplate connectors, Onboard internal connectors, BIOS chip, CMOS battery, Chipset, Jumpers and Documentation.
