Amy VanScoy

Amy VanScoy is a doctoral student at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill investigating reference librarians' approaches to their work. As a reference librarian and manager at North Carolina State University Libraries, Amy's professional career focused on user-centered services and use of technology to improve reference service. Amy presented “Teachable instants” in instant message reference: Taking the opportunity or taking a pass?” at ALA’s 2009 Annual Conference.

Amy offers strategies for navigating the dynamic environment of changing technology and user needs by grounding reference practice in a personal philosophy of reference.
