1974 - Finished masters. Masters paper title: Natural Area Classification of Auto Theft Regions.
1974 - Did my first conference presentation at Mid-Atlantic AAG meetings, West Point. Paper title, "Trend Surface Analysis of Automobile Theft in Buffalo, NY".
1974 - Saw Led Zeppelin in concert!
1974 - Worked for the summer at Ray Boyle's Autocarto Lab in Saskatoon.
1975 - Spent the summer working a Roger Tomlinson led project on doing an inventory of all computer based mapping, cartography, and GIS applications at the USGS.
1975 - Received an LEAA (Law Enforcement Assistance Administration) grant to subsidize my PhD dissertation research.
1975 - First met Jack Dangermond at AutoCarto II
1975 - Presented second professional paper at Mid Stares Division of the AAG, "Criminal GIS and their Implications for the Spatial Analysis of Crime".
1976 - Finished PhD course work - GIS System Architecture for Police Information Systems
1977 - Moved to Fort Collins and went to work for the FRMS under contract to the US Fish and Wildlife. Task was to design a new GIS that could be used for coal mitigation and habitat analysis.
1977 - Invited participant to the Advanced Symposium on Topological Data Structures
1977 - Attended first URISA conference. Presented "Comparison of Selected Operational Capabilities of 54 Geographic Information Systems" with Curtis Wilcott.
1978 - Finished first version of MOSS
1978 - Met Harry Niedzwiadek and George Hoffman from Autometric.
1978 - Attended AutoCarto III and presented "EVALUATION AND SELECTION OF EXISTING GIS SOFTWARE FOR THE U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE GIS"
1979 - Went to work for the US Fish and Wildlife. Began porting MOSS to the DG minicomputer
1980 - Went to work for Autometric. Won contracts, hired GIS programmers, and grew small Autometric office in Ft. Collins.
1980 - Finally received my PhD
1980 - Attended Harvard Graphics Conference and presented paper on the use of MOSS for coastal change detection in the Mississippi Delta
1981 - Met Dr. Robert Starling
1983/84 - Worked Terrain Analysis Workstation (TAWS), Computer Assisted Photo Interpretation Research (CAPIR) and cruise missile projects. Did MOSS software development, conversion to other hardware platforms, and MOSS training. Also worked on the MOSS Topological Data Structure design stufy funded by the USGS.
1984/85 Worked Mark 90 Proposal efforts
1985/86 Led design and development team for new commercial GIS software - DeltaMap
1986 - Started DeltaSystems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Autometric.
1986 - First met David Schell.
1989 - DeltaSystems purchased by Genasys II Pty (Australian company). Changed name of GIS to GenaMap. I was promoted to President of Genasys Americas
1992 - Proposed the concept a fully interactive GUI applications development environment for GenaMap. Bruce Lundy creates GENIUS.
1994 - Worked on first Web project in concert with E-Systems and the US Dept of Ag. Used MOSAIC as the browser. This work led to the design and development of the Genasys Spatial Web Broker.
1994 - Attended first OGC meeting.
1995 - Presented at GTG Conference - predicted that the internet/web would change how GIS technology was used, deployed, accessed, etc.
1996 - Genasys Spatial Web Broker released
1996 - Voted one of the top 10 most influential people in GIS.
1997 - Hired by Jim Medlock (Intergraph) as VP of Infrastructure/GIS Marketing for Intergraph.
1999 - Left Intergraph and became an independent consultant. Worked for Intergraph, OGC, Syncline, H3G and others.
2001 - Joined the OGC
2004 - Met Sir Tim Berners-Lee
2005 - Began collaboration with the IETF GeoPriv working group on location elements/objects for use in internet standards.
2006 - Began work with a small group on GeoRSS.
2007 - Helped bring KML into the OGC standards process.
2007 - Met Vint Cerf
2008 and 2009 - GeoWeb Conference Planning Committee
2009 - Voted one of the top 10 most influential geo people (Directions)
2009 - Inducted into the URISA GIS Hall of Fame
2010 - Finished book chapter on OGC standards and the GeoWeb
2010 - Joined the GITA Board of Directors
2011 - Co-authored book chapter on standards for augmented reality
2012 - Finished term on GITA Board
2014 - Geospatial World Lifetime Achievement Award.
2015 - Left OGC staff and returned to part time consulting.
