Col Norman did not attend but didn’t manage to find out why
Hon Col & Col of QOY were unable to attend due to attendance at the funeral of soldier killed in a training accident – not from Wigan Sqn
Nice meal as usual, lots of chatting, Glenn Millar leaves the Army in May when he reaches 60 then, speeches were in the bar area with Col Ralph reading notes from new Col QOY as well as his own notes, OC B Sqn only had about 3 minutes for his speech due to sit down for dinner, no speech’s at the table
John Eastham Jnr is now working at NW OTR and we have gained 4 new 2Lt’s one from Liverpool and one from Manchester OTR, (3 attending dinner as instructed by OC), sat not far from two of them at dinner along with Steve Dawber new 2IC B Sqn who did explain to me that if they work 10 days for the army they are entitled to and receive 1 day paid holiday and they will receive a pension based on pay received, how times have changed and do still receive bounty
Sqn completing lots of training for new vehicles which should mean all qualified with be able to go on deployment with regulars in 2020 to Europe Croatia I think that was the country name and some could be for 6 months
MOL 11th hour update by Col Ralph, Lancaster Castle/Prison maybe offering space to display some items of DLOY collection in a “cell” on the second floor once work is finished they think they are going to have too much space!, Col still working on it, still no dates for move could still have as much as 6 months while MOL staff organise themselves in readiness to start moving DLOY
Think this is roughly what happened! And Col Martin had a plastic boot for something wrong with his ankle I think
Ps Col Finlay and Major Finlay are husband and wife from York and guests of the Hammersley’s, who work together ish on church business with their own churches in York as well as ex regular Army.
