The World Boardgaming Championships takes place the first week of August at the Lancaster Resort in Lancaster, PA. It is the predecessor of Avaloncon, which started in 1991 and remains one of the largest gaming events today.

Squad Leader is also played at the Grognard Pre-Con,which features ten traditional hex-style wargames.

20 players fought through 33 games at SQL, COI and COD levels. Players could choose from 30 scenarios at the SQL/COI level to play. The most played was Kharkov 1943, an On All Fronts (38.1) scenario with 8 plays. Hasty Assault from Advance Phase was second with 4 plays.
