The Rancho Penasquitos Planning Board elections will be held this Wednesday, March 1 from 5:30-7:30pm. For more information click here. Polls are tentatively scheduled in the Del Sur Room (previously known as Spyglass).

2017 RPPB Election

The 2017 election will fill RPPB odd numbered districts and at-large seats as follows:

Rancho Peñasquitos Seats – District 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11
Black Mtn. Ranch Seat – At-large Seat #1
Torrey Highlands Seat – At-large Seat #1

Members of the Rancho de los Peñasquitos Planning Board shall be elected to serve for a fixed term of two years.

Candidate Eligibility
1. Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years of age.
2. An eligible Rancho Peñasquitos District candidate has resided within the boundaries of the respective district for which election is being sought at least thirty (30) days prior to election.
3. An eligible Torrey Highlands candidate has resided within the boundaries of the Torrey Highlands Community Plan for at least thirty (30) days prior to election.
4. An eligible Black Mtn. Ranch candidate has resided within the boundaries of the Black Mountain Ranch Community Plan for at least thirty (30) days prior to election.
5. Eligible candidates must have documented attendance at three regular meetings of the Rancho de los Peñasquitos Planning Board’s last 12 meetings prior to the adjournment of the February regular meeting preceding the election.

Candidate applications must be submitted prior to the conclusion of RPPB’s February 1, 2017 regularly scheduled meeting.

Election Location/Times
The elections will be held on March 1, 2017 between 5:30pm – 7:30pm at the location of our regularly scheduled board meeting. Hotel Karlan (Doubletree Resort) 14455 Peñasquitos Dr, San Diego 92129 (Room TBD)

All persons voting in a Planning Board election must be at least 18 years of age and must have resided within the district or at-large seat boundaries for which they are voting for the thirty (30) days prior to the scheduled election. Each voter will cast a single ballot. The Election is conducted by secret ballot and identification with current address is required; write-in candidates and proxy voting are NOT allowed.

Urban Wildfire Emergency Preparedness Presentation

The Rancho Penasquitos Fire Safe Council invites you to attend the Annual Urban Wildfire Emergency Preparedness Presentation. The event will be held at the Penasquitos Library, 13330 Salmon River Road, San Diego CA 92129 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, September 13, 2016. Topics include home protection, brush management and upcoming inspections, and Ready, Set, Go. Dennis Spurr, PR FSC and Officer Eddie Villavicencio, SDFD will be presenting and answering questions.

Torrey Meadows Neighborhood Park

A Capital Improvements Program (CIP) project to construct Torrey Meadows Neighborhood Park started last month. This five-acre park project is located at the intersection of Torrey Meadows Drive and Via Sabbia. Proposed improvements include: a multi-purpose field, basketball court, children’s play area, accessible walkways, landscaping, drainage improvements, picnic facilities, furnishings, shade structures, a comfort station and accessibility improvements. The target completion is summer of 2017.

New Traffic System Allowing Commuters to Navigate I-15 Accidents Launches

A new system of electronic signs and traffic signal meters that will allow drivers to quickly get around major accidents clogging up Interstate 15 is set to go into effect Thursday, according to the San Diego Association of Governments, the region's planning agency, and Caltrans.

The Integrated Corridor Management project is a series of electronic signs on I-15, alternate route signs and coordinated traffic signal and ramp meters. If an accident causes significant slowdowns, drivers will see a message on the electronic signs with instructions on when to get off I-15 and what route to follow. Traffic lights along the route will be set to allow them to get back on the freeway as soon as possible, the agencies said.

The system will cover 20 miles of I-15, from just north of State Route 52 to State Route 78.

Public Scoping Meeting- The Preserve at Torrey Highlands

You may be interested in attending the City of San Diego Development Services Department’s Public Scoping meeting and commenting on the proposed project (The Preserve at Torrey Highlands) or submitting your comments. The project is located in Torrey Highlands Planning Area on the property that you may know as the Diocese Property and located on the west side of the future extension of Camino del Sur south of SR-56.

Public Scoping Meeting - March 30, 2016 beginning at 5:30pm and ending no later than 7:30pm at the Rancho Peñasquitos Branch Library, 13330 Salmon River Rd. San Diego 92129. Please note that the meeting may end earlier than 7:30pm dependent on the number of attendees.

Please review the Notice of Preparation of a Environmental Impact Report posted on the City website at http://docs.sandiego.gov/citybulletin_publicnotices/CEQA/PN1300%20%23442880%20NOP%20EIR%20Date%203-8-16.pdf  for more information on the proposed project and the environmental impact areas per CEQA Guidelines under ‘Recommended Finding’ on page 2. Specific issues are listed in the document.

Verbal and written comments regarding the scope and alternatives of the proposed EIR will be accepted at the scoping meeting.

Written comments may be sent to E. I would recommend written comments be sent no later than March 30th as the Notice does not list a date specific deadline.

Many of you attended RPPB’s Land Use Committee (LUC) meeting on March 2, 2016 and your comments/concerns about this project are being collated by the committee but you may also want to attend this meeting to express your concerns there also or submit written comments.
