Tips
1) pp. 28-29: Check to see if it's compound first, concrete second or collective third. If it's none of those, it's abstract.
2) Show possession using an apostrophe.
3) p.189 The sentence is active if the subject is doing the action. Switch the order of the nouns and change the verb to go from active to passive or visa versa.
4) Look it up in the dictionary. Make sure it's a word.
5) pp. 131-132 Decide whether you have a fragment (dependent clause) or a run-on sentence (2 independent clauses). If it's a fragment, add on to make a compete sentence and use appropriate punctuation. If it's a run-on, use a semi-colon to combine.
6) Identify the subject (remember the subject is NEVER in a prepositional phrase) then choose the appropriate verb, singular or plural. S = “you understood” in questions.
7) Look up meanings in the dictionary.
8) Adverbs USUALLY end in "-ly".
9) Look up meanings in the dictionary.
