FINAL EXAM, ENGLISH 12/ PSYCHOLOGY AND LITERATURE

Directions:
This final exam is an opportunity to share all you’ve learned throughout the semester, both academically and personally. In this assignment, you will connect the disciplines of psychology and English by composing an original creative piece of writing. You will choose either:
a short story, or
an interview/conversation with a fictional character.
Submitting your Work:
You must submit your work in three ways:
Your Writing
As you write, remember to include the conventions of narrative structure: introduction, conflict, complication, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Write to the best of your ability, using the ideas we have discussed this semester in Psychology and Literature.
The writing should be a maximum of three pages.
Please write your responses on separate white-lined paper.
Address all the issues contained in the prompt.
Double space.
Be efficient, accurate, and descriptive with your vocabulary choices.
Don’t repeat ideas, words, or terms.
Proofread your responses before you submit.
HONORS STUDENTS:
Please infuse at least five direct excerpts from this scholarly research into your writing: APA Therapy. Please cite according to MLA standards.
OPTION ONE: Short Story
Create a short fictional piece in which you tell the story of a character dealing with a psychological dilemma that challenges him or her to be the best and happiest person possible.
OPTION TWO: Interview/Conversation
Create a realistic character with a psychological dilemma. In an interview or conversational format, share the character’s story. You may decide to act as the part of a therapist, physician, guidance counselor, spiritual counselor, parent/ relative, teacher, or friend.
Content of your Writing:
In either assignment, you need to demonstrate your understanding of what we’ve covered throughout the semester through notes, presentations, and the three texts we’ve shared: One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Girl, Interrupted, and Ordinary People.
Describe your character with the following criteria in mind:
Physical symptoms
Psychological symptoms
Behavior (individual, social, family, career/academic)
Past and recent traumas
Psychological perspectives
Diagnosis
Treatment plan
Conditions for full participation in society
After-care requirement
Case review and summary
