Spinoffs: The PSFC Environmental Committee has created and spunoff the following squads:
Activities Mandated by the Park Slope Food Coop's Environmental Policy
- Maximize provision of foods and cosmetics which are organically and/or regionally grown, cruelty-free and otherwise environmentally benign.
- No irradiated ingredients.
- No genetically engineered products.
- Carry only foods on which ingredients are listed.
- Sell as much as possible in bulk.
- Educate members about brining resuable bags and containers.
- Educate members about environmentally superior products via Gazette articles, signs by the items on the shelf, handouts.
- Informally monitor new products.
- Avoid toxic substances.
- Minimize disposable products.
- Achieve environmentally sound packaging.
- Reduce energy use in transportation.
- Avoid animal testing.
- Avoid products which show environmental irresponsibility.
- Semi-annually, bring a list of products we find of serious concern to the coordinator who is our liaison.
- Conduct periodic waste, energy, and water use audits.
- Support members who want to avoid auto use.
- Recycled paper products.
- Expand office waste and carboard recycling.
- Educate members on environmental concerns through the Gazette articles and handouts, fact sheets, orientation sheets, displays, lectures, and workshops.
