2nd International & 9th Annual
Convention and Scientific Meeting
A Decade of Commitment to Education, Research, and Innovation in Cell Biology
Central Laboratory, University of Santo Tomas, Manila
October 22-23, 2018
The Philippine Society for Cell Biology welcomes fellow scientists to the 2nd International and 9th Annual Convention of the organization, in cooperation with the University of Santo Tomas. We highly encourage you to join us in listening to the lectures of our local and international speakers, as well as our young researchers, featuring topics that capture A Decade of Commitment to Education, Research, and Innovation in Cell Biology. In addition to this, stay tuned for a FREE post-conference workshop brought to you by the society, in partnership with CORNING® to tackle the advancements and applications of 3D & Organoid Cell Structure.

3D & Organoid Cell Structure Seminar
(Post-Conference Event in Partnership with CORNING®)
Mandell Hall, Trinity University of Asia
October 24, 2018
The use of 3D cell cultures has been rising sharply in recent years from its initial introduction, over two decades ago. Evidence strongly suggests that 3D cell cultures establish physiological cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions, and, as a result, they can mimic the specificity of native tissue with greater physiological relevance than conventional 2D cultures. This is particularly evident in applications such as stem cell culture and differentiation, organoid generation, cancer biology, drug and toxicity screening, and tissue engineering.
In addition, many 3D cultures are amenable to large-scale drug screens for rapid detection of phenotypic or genetic changes associated with therapeutic compounds—an approach that opens the door for the use of 3D culture as an integral part of personalized medicine.
This seminar focused on:
Trends in 3D and organoid cell culture
Scaffold-based and scaffold-free techniques for 3D cell culture
New high throughput methods for 3D cell phenotypic screening of multicellular tumor spheroids
How 3D and organoid assays are helping researchers in understanding the intricacies of ailments such as cancer
