Structure of the resources
Each resource contains the relevant National Curriculum statements for the unit of work and prior learning, a planning matrix, annotated work and a summary sheet. The matrix provides an interpretation of the key learning of the National Curriculum statements, and suggestions of key vocabulary. In order to be meet the expectations pupils must firstly understand the key concept and then be provided with opportunities to apply that knowledge. This is a key planning tool.
Using the resources
The resources have been produced to support teachers in assessing primary science. Effective assessment involves careful planning with expectations and possible outcomes identified. Plans are then refined during the learning process in response to formative assessment.
The resources can support individual teachers, whole schools or groups of schools in planning for assessment and in moderating their pupils’ work against the NC statements. They also demonstrate how AfL techniques can be used to identify progress and advance learning.
