· Consol in logistics means consolidation of several shipments from more than one supplier under one MAWB (master air waybills) by a freight forwarder at origin and sending it together to destination airport
Air Freight
· Maximum size limit of the package to accommodate in Passenger Aircraft:
Length: 310 cm.
Width: 210 cm.
Height: 160 cm.
Note: If any dimension of the package is exceeding this limit it is considered to be ODC (Over Dimensional Cargo) and can be moved only in Freighter Air Craft.
· Volumetric Weight : 1 Kg =6000 cm3
Chargeable Weight: Airline charges on the Gross weight or Volumetric weight whichever is higher.
Sea Freight
· LCL (Less than container load): If particular consignment weight/volume is not enough to move economically in a full container, freight forwarder consolidates cargo’s for different consignee to make a full container load. Generally, sea freight ARC is based on LCL movements with weekly frequency.
· FCL (Full Container Load): FCL means dedicated container for particular shipment. There are various kinds of containers but below mentioned three types of containers more prevalent depending upon their size.
o 20 Feet General Container: Inside length-5.89m, inside width- 2.33m, inside height-2.38m, Cargo weight carrying capacity - Approx. 21 Tons
o 40 Feet General Container: Inside length-12.01m, inside width- 2.33m, inside height-2.38m, Cargo weight carrying capacity - Approx. 26 Tons
o 40 Feet High Cube Container: Inside length-12.01m, inside width- 2.33m, inside height-2.69m, Cargo weight carrying capacity - Approx. 26 Tons
45 inch high cube: 13.6*2.3*2.7 net load 25.6 mt
Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU): 20”*8”*8”
Forty Foot Equivalent Unit (FEU): 40”*8”*8”
· Break Bulk: Packaged but non-containerized cargo. Any oversized cargo which can not be accommodated in container must be shipped in a Break Bulk Vessel. The frequency of these vessels is normally 1-2 sailing in a month.
Intermodalism: a system whereby standard-sized cargo containers can be moved seamlessly via different modes of transport (containership, barges, trucks, trains)
Reefer: Temperature controlled container
