"Matt Groden speaks the language of the students he teaches. He is like no other..the model of what an engaged, in tuned, upbeat, positive teacher should be."

Janet L. - Parent of AP Calculus Student

"Matt was a wonderful, passionate tutor for my daughter. Not only did she have a successful year in AP Calculus, she also performed great on the AP exam and is now exempt from Calculus in college! "

Stacey B. - Parent of AP Calculus Student

"Mr. Groden helped me improve my math skills a lot over the few months that I worked with him. He was very open to helping, and he would not give up until I understood the problem completely. Overall, I believe that Mr. Groden was the best tutor that I have ever worked with."

Carly M. - AP Calculus Student

"Thanks for working with our daughter - she really enjoyed it and I saw her confidence increase which in turn increased her fluency and willingness to ask questions/show you her work. She also willing told friends that she was being taught math over the summer. No embarrassment on her part. One of her other friends who is very gifted in math (not the one that came to the session) looked at her notebook and was like that makes so much more sense doing this way. It was interesting to witness how the conversation progressed to a mature level where it was a discussion of mathematics."

Parent of Summer Student

"Just wanted to let you know that my daughter had a really great semester in Algebra I. I have to say that I feel you played a big role in her being so successful. I am so happy that I signed her up for your Algebra prep class last summer. Not only was she prepared for Algebra 1 but she had confidence in herself. Thank you again for all that you do for students. Your passion and dedication for your teaching make a huge difference in their learning."

Eileen B. -Parent of Algebra 1 Review Course student

"I wanted to let you know [my son's] score went up 120 points from his last test!! I’m in tears right now, happy tears of course, and we can’t thank you enough. It wasn’t just the strategies you shared. It was also your belief and encouragement that I am sure helped [my son] build the confidence and belief in himself. He went in there knowing he could do it, and he did! I’m so proud of him and I’m so thankful to you.

Some people are just meant to teach and build up our young men and ladies because they have a giving and sharing spirit. You are one of those people. Thank you so much!"

Tanika C. - Parent of SAT Prep Course Student

Amy G. - Parent of Summer Middle School Math Foundations course

"In the fall of 2017, we anxiously sought out someone who could help our h.s. senior get on track in his extremely difficult AP BC Calculus class -- in which he was getting a "D" -- a first for this normally high-achieving kid. Matt came over, assessed our son, and said he felt confident that he could help turn things around. By the next marking period, our son had a "B"! Matt's positivity, combined with his genuine love of math and a willingness to be available between tutoring sessions, were the keys to greatly improving a very tough situation. Because of Matt, our son gained the tools to do Calculus and the confidence to do better on his homework, quizzes and tests. THANK YOU, Matt, for being the best tutor we ever hired!"

-Jennifer G. - Parent of AP Calculus Student

"Thank you for making math fun. She has always loved math and done well, but you make it easy for her to give up time in the summer to learn."

Kim M. - Parent of Summer Algebra 1 Review Course Student

"I had a wonderful experience with all my tutoring sessions, and each one helped me better understand the material at hand and helped me to achieve better test scores. Mr. Groden effectively helped me to understand the meaning behind the math problems. This helped me complete more problems on my own time. Overall, I would highly recommend getting tutored by Mr. Groden and would love to continue to be tutored over the summer and into next school year."

Maddy - Algebra 2 Honors Student

"Matt Groden is an amazing educator! He brings forth his positive energy and knowledge of teaching math to all students. He has the skills to adapt his lessons so that each and every student can learn the necessary concepts. His math videos are another great asset to his class. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to see them succeed."

Annimaria B. - Parent of Summer Algebra 1 Review Course Student

"Matt Groden is the epitome of an excellent math tutor! He is extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic and very efficient with time during his student's sessions. My daughter had him as a tutor for AP Calculus AB/BC and he not only made the learning fun but was able to teach high level concepts in a very understandable way. My daughter truly had a better understanding of the material after each session. Another bonus was tutoring sessions were able to continue uninterrupted during all the inclement weather this past winter. Matt offered online interactive sessions which were equally as effective. Overall, we highly recommend Matt Groden for any tutoring needs you may have! He is a fantastic teacher and a nice person as well!" Hope W. - Parent of AP Calculus student

"Matt Groden was able to excite my son about math again. My older son was fortunate enough to have Mr. Groden as a teacher and always raved about his classes. It wasn't until Mr. Groden came to our house to tutor our other son that I was able to see first hand how special his teaching style was. Mr. Groden made it exciting to learn math and more importantly instilled a confidence in my child that I had not seen in a while. I would not hesitate to recommend Matt Groden to tutor anyone in math."

Miriam A. - Parent of students

"Mr Groden is a wonderful teacher. He knows ALL the math concepts and makes class enjoyable. He is fun to know. My son gives him 5 stars and a triple thumbs up! My son never wanted to miss a session. Thank you!"

Debra K - Parent of AP Calculus AB and BC Weekly Seminar

"If you are considering a math tutor for your student, I'd strongly recommend that you consider Matt Groden. My son is one of those students that is able grasp complex mathematical concepts, but can be challenged when it comes to proving his knowledge acquisition. After a particularly rough first marking period in AP Calculus AB, we hired Mr. Groden to tutor our son. We arranged a one hour weekly meeting in our home for the second half of the semester. During the first week, Mr. Groden assessed not only the specific challenge that my son was having, but he also evaluated and determined his optimum style of learning.

Using his infectious enthusiasm and deep subject knowledge, Mr. Groden reinvigorated my son's interest in calculus and helped him to raise his C- in marking period 1 to a B+ in marking period 2. Most importantly, Mr. Groden made sure that my son understands a pursuit of higher level mathematics in his final year of high school and on into college is most definitely within his reach.

Mr. Groden's approach is both personal and personalized. He is deeply invested in his student's success, as evidenced by his willing availability between sessions via text and email. Mr. Groden's tutoring services are well worth the cost."

Steve G. - Parent of AP Calculus students

"Matt's ACT tutoring was extremely personalized, helpful, and challenging--in the good way. I felt like he was helping 'me' improve and learn as much as possible, not just tutoring me with some "universal method". This made me enjoy our sessions much more than I would have any other, and believe that I improved more than I could have with any other tutoring service. Matt's combination of skill and a genuinely selfless drive to help students improve their abilities and indulge themselves in math makes me believe that anyone will improve from and enjoy Matt's tutoring services more than they could from any other."

Ben W. - ACT Student

"Matt Groden helped turned my son’s Calculus grade around. More importantly than a better grade, Matt helped him breakdown the concepts into understandable chunks of information, which is important at Calculus will be part of my son’s college curriculum. Matt is a cool guy and my 17 year old loved talking with him, which of course made the sessions even better. Matt was available by text for any questions on non-tutoring days. I highly recommend Matt as a math secret weapon. He was accessible, encouraging, and made math fun again. I wish I had found him years ago."

Sandy S.

"My daughter struggled with math and the prior tutor could not transmit his knowledge so that the student could understand but Mr. Groden explained it clearly. As the expression goes "The proof is in the pudding." Following her final, my child felt so good because she felt she understood how to address most of the problems on the final. Not every tutor is the same and I sincerely wish I could have known about Mr. Groden when my other child was going through the same math struggles in high school. Once we understand then we do well! It's a great feeling for both the student and the parent! We are extremely grateful to Mr. Groden!!!"

Karla C. - Parent of Honors PreCalculus Student

"For all my local friends...if you are in need of a math tutor or just trying to keep your child fresh due to that wonderful Pennsbury high school scheduling that can leave your child without math for a full year...Look no further! Matt Groden is absolutely amazing! He takes the time to understand how your child learns and makes them ENJOY math. Words I never thought I'd hear myself sayha! He helped 2 of my children and we will be forever grateful!"

- Deb G. - From a Facebook Comment

" Matt Groden is a wonderful teacher, and my own personal interests in mathematics would not have been the same without being a part of Mr. Groden’s class. Mr. Groden was my calculus teacher in high school, and the first thing one should know about learning from Mr. Groden is that he always brings excitement to everything he teaches, and he is able to translate his excitement to engage each of his students. Through this engagement, he builds a connection to keep his students’ interests. To give a comical example, I remember that Mr. Groden took each calculus subject and took the time to create a rap that represented these subjects, because this would create an excitement for the subject within his class. Lastly, Mr. Groden was able to help students develop their own interests in mathematics. I had come into his class with decent mathematical capabilities but was not interested in pursuing the subject further after high school. I ended the class with a new interest in the subject, which was the first step towards leading me to become the engineer I am today. For any student, I would recommend taking the opportunity to learn from Mr. Groden, as you not only will enjoy learning about mathematics, but might just find a new interest to pursue yourself."

Best,

Dan A.

"I really enjoyed the class. The class helped me review a lot of the stuff I learned in class and helped me to really understand everything. I would definitely recommend!"

Katie C. - Student in '17-'18 AP Calculus AB Weekly Seminar

"This summer, Matt provided my daughter with a review of math concepts learned during the school year. Matt is FUN, ENERGETIC , DEPENDABLE and his PASSION FOR MATH IS CONTAGIOUS!!! My daughter loves math again."

Nancy G.

"Our son looked forward to his math tutoring sessions with Matt. He prepared for the sessions and found Matt’s teaching helped explain math concepts our son didn’t always grasp in the classroom. He felt better prepared as a consequence which gave him more confidence."

Diane S. - Parent of 2018 Algebra 2 Honors Student

"When I heard I was going to be tutored for my math class, I was very nervous. In the beginning I thought it wouldn't make much of a difference, but boy, was I wrong. Mr Groden came to my house and just after one hour of tutoring, I had become so much more confident in math. I originally had the plan of just making it through the course, but by the end, I wanted more than to just get a good grade. I wanted to enjoy math, and this was something that Mr Groden really wanted for me as well. I learned to not just take a course for the credit or the grade, I learned how to enjoy my classes. Mr Groden has definitely impacted my learning and provided a strong basis for the math courses I will take in the future."

Ben A.

"Mr. Groden is hands-down the most inspirational teachers that I have ever had. He is not only incredibly knowledgeable on the subjects which he teaches, but he also possesses the remarkable talent of being able to connect with his students to get them enthusiastic to learn math. Mr. Groden is really the perfect mix of a fun and challenging teacher - a true rarity in the teaching profession. The subjects that he teaches are by no stretch of the imagination easy, but he teaches them in a way that makes even the most difficult of concepts seem not only simple but enjoyable.

After finishing his AP Calculus classes, I gained a whole new appreciation for Mr. Groden as I began taking higher level math courses in college. I have to give credit where it is due and say that my success in more advanced math classes has everything to do with the phenomenal foundation that I was lucky enough to have laid down for me by Matthew Groden. Mr. Groden has molded me into someone that truly loves math, and every time that I profess to someone that I am, in fact, a Mathematics Major, I cannot help but think of the man that helped me discover how passionate I am about the subject."

Jay S.

"Mr. Groden’s enthusiastic, proactive teaching style not only taught me concepts, but also taught me to enjoy learning math. Math with Mr. Groden is not just memorization tactics; it is full immersion in the topics at hand. Through real world applications and detailed explanations, Mr. Groden shows the interesting side of math many teachers miss. The best part about Mr. Groden’s teaching, by far, is the effort he puts in to make sure his students succeed. He always goes beyond expectations with patient guidance because he believes in his students. Learning math with Mr. Groden was the treat of my academic career and the jumpstart I needed to pursue math in college. He is truly a remarkable teacher."

Cam B.

"Excellent class and great communication. Highly recommend. "

Cary W. - Parent of Summer 2017 SAT Prep Course

Mr. Groden was my AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC teacher from 2010 to 2011; he was also the instructor of Mathletes (a math club) that I was a part of. Mr. Groden is very well-prepared as a teacher. Besides having an in-depth understanding of the course materials, he also goes the extra mile to prepare his students for an exam. In my case, I was able to take the AP exam confidentially because I knew full well the content of the exam and how to tackle each question effectively.

Mr. Groden is also a teacher who relates to his students well. Keeping no distance from us, Mr. Groden created a friendly classroom environment where I felt comfortable asking questions. In fact, I grew so close to him that we would often chat after school. He is also one of the must-visit high school teachers every time I go home from college.

Vincent L.

At Pennsbury, I was fortunate to have many great teachers. Yet, any student who had Mr. Groden would agree that he stood out even among such excellent faculty members. Mr. Groden was well-known and loved for his kindness, intelligence, and commitment to teaching.

"Mr. Groden was one of the nicest and most personable teachers I’ve ever had. He took a genuine interest in each of his students, and he was always happy to provide extra help when a student needed. I was lucky to have Mr. Groden for AP Calculus AB as well as BC, and I have heard equally wonderful things from my friends in his Algebra 1 classes. His lessons covered everything we would possibly need to know, and he was so enthusiastic to answer questions – especially those that went beyond the topic. He consistently showed not only his passion for math, but also his dedication to teaching. He taught his students to love math, and spent time encouraging their interests, such as by coaching the school Mathletics Team. He went out of his way to offer AP review sessions (and made sure we’d come by offering donuts!), and our class was more than ready for the AP exam. In fact, we were so prepared that our BC class averaged a 4.943, compared with a national average of 3.80.

Overall, Mr. Groden has been a phenomenal teacher. He is uniquely knowledgeable and clearly loves teaching. He takes a genuine, personal interest in his students, and he cares about their individual learning. I would highly recommend hiring Mr. Groden as a tutor."

Alex F.

"When it comes to basic math, everyone has little “tricks” they’ve accumulated that help them understand and solve problems. But as you advance and math gets more complex, it gets harder to not get lost in the conceptual ideas behind the problems. But with great skill and passion, Mr. Groden manages to teach conceptual math in a manner that is clear and detail-oriented, yet rooted in real world ideas that help students to grasp the big-picture concepts. In class or one-on-one, Mr. Groden, is attentive to the learning needs of each student, and his passion both for math and for teaching are evident every lesson. Not only does this allow Mr. Groden’s students to excel in their studies, but also to begin to see the world through the lens of mathematical concepts, and thus to develop a life-long relationship with the field. (Five years after taking calculus I still remember learning about tangent lines his class every time I drive around a bend in the road.)"

Clara P.

"Going into AP Calc, I was a little nervous because I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. However, I did not expect to finish the class with a new pleasure of doing practice problems. I did not expect to have fun (yes, fun) while taking the exam at the end of the year. I did not expect to want to continue taking math classes in college. Mr. Groden teaches the material to make it FUN and interesting, while also making it very clear to understand. Whenever I had a question, I could very easily walk up to his desk and he would explain it to me in a way that made any confusion disappear. He is very approachable and genuinely cares about all of his students succeeding (which is so cool). Hands down one of the best teachers I have ever had at Pennsbury and I would recommend him to everyone!!"

-Emily K.

Mr. Groden is one of the most inspiring and enthusiastic teachers I have ever had. His love for mathematics and his students is evident whether he is giving a lesson for the first time, for the 20th time, or staying late to help out someone who is struggling; it is this dedication and passion which makes him such an effective teacher for all. He is able to motivate students working with all levels of math and has many was of approaching a new topic, introducing it, and getting everyone on board. His method of presentation engages all learning styles to help all students follow. This gets students to understand the information rather than just memorize a handful of equations, the most fundamental aspect of learning.

Hannah S.

"Mr. Groden taught me AP Calculus AB and BC with a clarity and enthusiasm that I have not seen in any high school teacher or college professor I have had. I can objectively say that he was the most talented teacher i ever had and truly inspired me to become a mathematician."

Corey W.

"My favorite memory of Mr. Groden was when he came in on a Saturday morning, after just having a new born baby, to help our class study for our AP Calculus exam. We went through practice exams and he helped us go through tricky problems step by step. I forgot to mention he brought donuts. Fast forward three years, I got a 5 on the AP Calculus exam and am now attending Georgia Tech for Industrial Engineering. Thanks for showing me how math can be fun Mr. Groden!"

Morgan K.

"I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Groden in 11th grade when I had him as a teacher for AP calculus AB and BC... His love of teaching really resonated in every thing he did, he taught AP calculus students about limits and pre algebra students distribution with the same gusto. He knew how to change his methods of teaching to suit the needs and understanding of each and every one of his students. What I liked best about having him as a teacher was that he never seemed frustrated with a student if they had trouble understanding him, he'd simply just try another method of teaching in order to try and help the student. He made nothing seem impossible to understand, and I think the best testament to his ability to teach was the AP scores from my class where the majority of students got 5's on the exams. But in my opinion the actually best testament to him as a teacher, not just is ability to teach, is the fact he was liked by just about everyone of his students..."

Cody W.

" Matt Groden was and remains the best teacher I have come into contact

with at any level of education. His effectiveness as an instructor

stems not only from a thorough mastery of the material, but from his

natural enthusiasm for helping his students succeed and learn for the

sake of learning. He makes complex concepts easily understandable and

normally tedious ones engaging and entertaining. Beyond this, he is an

energetic and happy person, and I cannot recommend him highly enough."

Max G.

" In a subject that is often anything but intuitive, Matt Groden is able to get to the simple center of any complex mathematical theorem and make it easy to understand for even the most mathematically challenged students. He doesn't judge. He doesn't get frustrated. He is always ready with a word of encouragement or helpful hint. But more than just a math expert, Matt Groden is the kind of teacher all teachers should strive to be. He truly cares about his students and wants them to learn. He understands why students struggle and what they need to be successful. But his most unique gift is his contagious enthusiasm. It's impossible not to share his delight when a concept finally sticks or a mathematical proof comes full circle. Any student would be lucky to have him as a tutor."

And sometimes he raps and it's great.

David F.

"Mr. Groden was by far the best math teacher I had throughout high school. In addition to being tremendously patient and calm, Mr. Groden had such a deep understanding of the subject he was able to explain math in a way that is easy to visualize. He had a unique and creative way of teaching that students really connected with. Mr. Groden inspired students to enjoy math more than just learn the material. It was clear that he really wanted us to succeed in the class. His commitment to his students was clearly demonstrated by the extensive amount of time he spent after class and on weekends with us. Mr. Groden went above and beyond any other teacher I had, and I felt extremely prepared for AP tests and college level math classes."

Marisa B.

" High school would not have been the same without Mr. Groden. I was fortunate enough to have him as a Calculus instructor for both my junior and senior years. Classes were always engaging, informative and enjoyable. One thing Mr. Groden did so well was the incorporation of all different types of learning strategies. By teaching through visual aids, auditory lectures, and kinesthetic projects, all types of students were able to excel in the course. Even the AP tests at the end of the year seemed a breeze after going through some of the review packets Mr. Groden put together and looking over the “Calculus-on-a-page” study guides (I even used that sheet for reference while taking three-dimensional in college). Because of how much I enjoyed those math courses, I went into Mechanical engineering at the University of Maryland and performed exceedingly well all math courses thanks to Mr. Groden’s thorough teaching in high school. His influence did not end there. Because of the passion I saw in him as a teacher, I am planning on furthering my education after my bachelor’s degree to become a teacher. If I do half as good a job he does, I would consider that a tremendous success."

Mike H.

"Mr Groden tutored me from my freshman year through my junior year of high school. In those years he has helped me grow as a student and a person. His enthusiasm and dedication to teaching is inspiring and motivating and has helped my math skills improve tremendously."

Amina P.

"Throughout High school, Mr. Groden was my favorite teacher. He made his math class something to be looked forward to every day. Always extremely approachable, he mixed learning math with humor, stories, and personality. While he will make you work hard, as any teacher should, Mr. Groden makes the hard work enjoyable and rewarding with unique lessons and projects that allow for creativity (such as a Cat-themed textbook I made in his class). With his help I was able to score a 5 on both AB and BC level advanced placement tests, and for that I will always be grateful! Every year post-graduation I try to come back and visit Mr. Groden, as he was not only a great teacher but a good friend."

Jesse P.

"I cannot even find the words to describe how grateful I am to have had Mr. Groden as a teacher. I was fortunate to have been in his class for both AB and BC calculus when I was in high school and I was more than prepared when it came time to take the AP tests in the spring. I looked forward to going to calculus every day as Mr. Groden’s energy and enthusiasm were truly contagious. I loved being in class. I am a student who has always been excited by learning, but Mr. Groden amplified this excitement with an interactive and lively teaching style. You could tell that he put his whole heart into teaching. Mr. Groden’s patient and encouraging manner helped to create a great learning atmosphere where I felt confident. He would even post pictures of cute baby animals on the board during tests to help us relax. He always had so many different ways to explain each calculus concept in order to ensure that everyone could find a way which worked best for them. To this day, if I am trying to write an integral based on a graph, I still think about how we lined books up on the whiteboard, either horizontally or vertically, to model this situation. I still use the concepts and learning strategies from Mr. Groden’s class as I study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science."

Alissa J.

"Mr. Groden was my teacher for, in my opinion, the most challenging math course my high school had to offer, AP Calculus. Getting through two years of college level classes between the month of September to mid May for the AP test was a challenge that Mr. Groden tackled with ease, not just for me but for the whole class. Despite the fact that he was teaching a group of high school juniors and seniors at 7:20 am every morning, Mr. Groden kept us engaged, interested, and eager to learn more. Although there was always much to be done, he was always willing to back track and explain again, try a different method of teaching the subject at hand, or just take a quick brain break to get back into shape. Mr. Groden doesn’t force success, but his teaching styles and personality as a whole correlate to success among all students."

Emily Z.

"I have had the pleasure of being tutored by Mr. Groden from freshmen year through junior year of high school. In these past few years, he has taught me so much and my math skills have majorly improved. Mr. Groden is helpful, encouraging, and extremely enthusiastic about math and education. He never fails to answer all of my questions and easily simplifies even the questions I find the most challenging and confusing. He is very passionate about teaching and has motivated me to work hard and be the best that I can be."

Yasmeen P.

"If you are considering hiring Matt Groden as a math tutor, I would strongly encourage you to do so. I consider myself fortunate to have had him at Pennsbury High School for both AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC. In addition, he was my coach for Mathletes. I achieved an A in each class and a 5 on both Advanced Placement tests. I attribute these grades to having Mr. Groden as my teacher. Not only was there never a boring moment in either class, but I can honestly say that never before have I learned so much, so easily, from a teacher. Originally I only signed up to take AP Calculus AB, but after that class with Mr. Groden, I changed my schedule so that I could take AP Calculus BC with him as well; he is such an incredible teacher that he made me want to learn more. His teaching style is fantastic because he can teach in so many different ways. He’s great at getting to know his students and tailoring his teaching methods specifically for them. He has a multitude of analogies to help his students better understand the material, and he never grows impatient if it takes a little while for students to figure it out. As a person, Mr. Groden is one of the nicest, most intelligent, and most enthusiastic people I have ever met. He displays genuine excitement about teaching and helping his students discover new information. It’s obvious that he loves what he does and wants to instill a love of math in others. If I needed tutoring, without a doubt, the first person I’d think to ask for help would be Mr. Groden. If you need extra help, having Mr. Groden as your tutor would be the best thing you could possibly do for yourself."

Nick R.

"Mr. Groden enlivens math with his illuminating explanations, rich knowledge, and contagious enthusiasm. His lessons were always thorough and well-paced, often incorporating some humor to encourage and interest even those who swore off math long ago. He has the patience to both motivate the student who is tired of learning and to answer the nerd's most esoteric questions. Some say he could even make pi think rationally. My high school was large and the students had many different opinions, but at the mention of Mr. Groden's name the response was always "He's my favorite" and "I couldn't have done it without him."'

Alana P.

"Mr. Groden helped tutor me for a calculus 2 class I was taking during the summer. He was extremely helpful and a very bright guy. He was always excited and has a lot of pride for math. He was able to explain concepts and material that I didn't quite understand during lectures. I would highly recommend Mr. Groden to anybody looking for a fun and smart tutor."

Brett H.

"Matt Groden will forever be the best math teacher I will ever have. You WILL not meet anyone more passionate , more willing to go the extra mile, and enthusiastic to teach, and desire for you to learn in your life. To this day, after 4 years of schooling at a top 10 engineering school in the US, no one has come close to to his teaching ability. My only regret from taking his AP Calc class was not listening and learning more from him."

Max M.

"Mr. Matt Groden has been a fantastic tutor for my son, taking Calculus 2. I found him to be very flexible and accommodating to schedule appointments with and he was always so happy and excited to be teaching math. His love for math was very contagious through his bounding energy and knowledge base on the subject matter. Mr. Groden’s method of teaching was extremely beneficial and helped my son to complete the course with confidence and a true understanding of the material. I would highly recommend Mr. Groden because he is personable, reliable and very knowledgeable in Calculus."

Andrea H.

"Mr. Groden makes learning interesting. He brings his love of math to the classroom and his passion inspires his students to challenge themselves and find success. Down to earth and understanding, he recognizes the busy lives of students and is always open to find time to help or answer any questions. His classroom is full of visual examples, in depth solutions, and fun examples. Mr. Groden makes connections with students that are open to it, the kind of teacher who students want to come back and visit. He doesn’t ever leave students to “figure it out on their own” but helps them along the way, building confidence to be able to get the five on an AP test or get the grade they’ve always wanted on a final."

Sarah Z.

"Walking into the classroom, I did not imagine it to be my favorite class throughout high school. I have liked math, but science classes have been more enjoyable because of their easier to appreciate applications. However, Mr. Groden not only made math both easy and understandable, but he also showed us the applications of various theories and equations. More importantly, he achieved this without the need to use any fancy tricks or special techniques, because teaching and helping student to understand seemed as if it is part of him! I am very glad that I got to take both Calculus AB and Calculus BC with him. He was a teacher who truly cared about his students and was more than happy to help student understand the materials. He was always patient when I asked him questions after class, and helped solve my confusions, even if sometimes it required more than one attempt of explaining. His passion towards math was truly inspiring, and I believe the best teacher makes the best tutor."

Gina L.

"Calculus was by far the most difficult class I encountered in high school, but I was extremely fortunate to have Mr. Groden as my teacher. I had never really struggled in a class before, and so it was difficult for me to ask for help when I needed it. Mr. Groden, however, made me feel comfortable going to him with the problems I had, whether conceptual or analytical. He has a thorough understanding of mathematics, but as a tutor, he offers even more than this. Mr. Groden is approachable and supportive, a teacher who genuinely cares about each of his students. He is truly an extraordinary individual, and even as I continue my university education, he remains, and I think will always be, one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of learning from."

"Without a doubt, you are the best math teacher that I ever had. I know Calculus is a very difficult subject (and of course I struggled with it), but I felt like I could just absorb the information and it stuck. Dare I say it, you made math fun! I love Calculus. (Next year, I am taking Advanced Calculus and I am really excited.) The fact that our BC class got a 4.93 average on the overall AP exam and a 5.0 average on the AB portion is a testament to your teaching style. I love how you integrated the exam material in our class in such a way that it never felt like we ever preparing for the exam.

Side story: As a Biology major, I entered college with Calculus being my only math requirement. I could have AP-ed out of it because I got a five on the BC exam. However, the thought that I would never see math, especially calculus, again was heartbreaking. So, I took the class. I was a pseudo-TA. As a concurrent student, I acted like a teaching assistant and tutored students once a week. You taught calculus with such passion that it was easy to follow in your footsteps! At that moment, I declared a math minor and have been loving it (mostly...) ever since. But, no one can compare to you. The few letters behind my professors' names testifying that they are experts in math and statistics reveals nothing about teaching. What I learned from you, Mr. Groden, is that being good at math and teaching math are two completely differently things. I think it is important to struggle when learning something new, but if you have a good support (or as Ramya and I like to call it, a "Grody") then there is no fear in getting through it. I am now a private math tutor. Last year I tutored a student through his AP Calculus course in high school. Using my notes from your class, the AP Calc on a sheet, and two hours a week, the student didn't even have to pay attention in his real class.

The best thing I liked about you as a math teacher is that you were respectful of students of all levels of math. Whether it is Algebra or Calculus, you bring the concepts down to a level so a student who has never seen it can start to understand it. You're encouraging and believe in all of your students. Any student would be lucky to have you as a tutor because unlike other teachers you actually care about your students learning the material..."

"Mr. Groden taught me for two years in both AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC. My math career with Mr. Groden started off a little shaky as I tried to muscle through the dense curriculum on my own, earning several C's on tests. This struggle began to effect my confidence in the classroom and I started to dread my daily math classes for the first time in my life. As the course moved along Mr. Groden began to work more closely with me to iron out the struggles and problems I was having in his class. He has his own way of explaining math concepts to make even the most foreign and difficult topics seem familiar and conquerable. My grades quickly picked up as I met with Mr. Groden after school and asked him more and more questions in class. C's turned to A's and my math teacher turned into my GPA-saving hero. Mr. Groden reignited my passion for math and the challenges it brings; he gave me the tools, confidence, and mind set to be able to tackle any challenge that would come my way. He has a way of connecting to people and really steering a lesson and a conversation to what will best help each individual student. Mr. Groden turned my C's to A's, my fear of math to 5's on both AP Calculus exams, and he turned my math teacher into a great mentor and the best teacher I will ever have. My only qualm about Mr. Groden is that, after two years of begging, he told me he would not reenroll in graduate school, get his PhD, and move almost 1000 miles to continue to be my teacher in college."

"It was a great pleasure to have Mr. Groden as my high school AP Calculus teacher. He is one of the most dedicated teachers I have come across in my educational career so far. I spent many hours after the school day ended (and lunches!) receiving additional help from Mr. Groden and he was always cheerful and willing to provide as much assistance as I needed. His enthusiasm for teaching is always evident in the classroom, as he knows the subjects he is teaching very well and is able to explain complicated concepts for students of all intellectual levels to grasp. Mr. Groden is always patient with students, ensuring that he resolves everyone's questions and provides a variety of different examples for further understanding. He will undoubtedly make your learning experience a hundred times more entertaining and enjoyable!"

"I am fortunate enough to say that I had Mr. Groden for two semesters during my high school career. Though he was my teacher for two of the most difficult math classes, AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC, his style of teaching made it easy for me to learn and contribute. Mr. Groden breaks many negative stereotypes that are given to teachers, as he is fun, passionate, and maybe most importantly, available. Too often, I have had teachers who teach between the bells, but Mr. Groden makes it a point to be there for his students and to give them every chance they need to succeed. He understands that being a teacher doesn’t only mean standing in front of a class and reading from Powerpoint slides; he talks to students one-on-one, finds real-world applications for theorems, and has even rapped in his classes. Mr. Groden knows what it means to be a teacher: to invigorate a student’s mind, to help them understand, and, in my case, to make me excited to learn. Also, the fact that he teaches both lower-level and higher-level classes portrays his versatility and experience with a wide range of students. To say that Mr. Groden is my favorite teacher I have ever had the honor of learning from would be an understatement. I would highly recommend to any and all persons to take advantage of Mr. Groden’s tutoring program."

"My daughters have been tutored by Matt Groden in all levels of Math for the past three high school years. He was recommended by a friend and I could not be more pleased. Not only has their proficiency in math improved, but their self confidence in math and problem solving in general has increased. Mr. Groden is enthusiastic, motivating and truly passionate about teaching others. There are many great teachers, but in my opinion, he is the best teacher my children have experienced in their 11 years in the Pennsbury School District."

Soodabeh J.

"Mr. Groden is an astounding teacher. No, that is not an exaggeration. I’ve had Mr. Groden for AP Calc AB and BC—for a total of two semesters.

I would not have received a 5 (the highest grade) on both the AP Calculus AB and BC exams if it weren’t for Mr. Groden. The 77% of my AB class that received a 5 on the exam would not have done so if it weren’t for Mr. Groden.

He is the best teacher I’ve had by far. He is undoubtedly one of Pennsbury’s best teachers. He shows a great affinity for teaching, making each of his lessons fun, lively, and engaging. Whenever I was confused about a tricky concept, Mr. Groden would easily clarify everything as soon as I asked for help. He understands where your confusion will sprout from. His explanations are clear, simple, understandable, and helpful. All his explanations and teachings come from a very firm grasp of the content that he teaches. You know a teacher will teach well when he knows his content better than the back of his hand.

Did I mention that he raps about Calculus?"

"Mr. Groden is awesome! He explained high-level math concepts really well, making calculus fun and easy, and he taught in a way that boosted our confidence in math. His enthusiasm and positivity are incredibly infectious. I haven’t met a single person who doesn’t absolutely love this man!"

Natalie D.

"Mr. Groden abolishes the myth that math is something you simply get or you don’t get. He believes that every one of his students has the capacity to succeed and looks for exciting, entertaining ways to present information. I'll never forget his calculus raps! Mr. Groden was the first teacher to prove to me that math is not just a list of rules to be memorized, but something you can really get creative with. And beyond his prowess for teaching, he’s incredibly compassionate. It has been years since I’ve sat in his classroom, and I still turn to him for life advice!"

Ramya G.

"Mr. Groden is by far the best teacher I've had. His passion for teaching and math are evident daily, and every day was fun. He was always energetic, and happy to be there, which in turn made me feel the same. He was always prepared with at least one or two ways to explain a topic in case one way wasn't clicking with a student, and his lessons were always accessible to us high schoolers. For example, he taught parametric equations by having us use our graphing calculator to make a basketball net and shoot a basketball, and I can honestly say it gave me a huge understanding of how parametric equations work and function. His love for all things mathematics is infectious, and it made me want to learn, but more importantly, it made me love math. "

"If there was ever an educator who took as much interest in the success of his students as he did in his academic field of expertise, Mr. Groden is that teacher. The excitement of Mr. Groden’s classroom remains one of my most poignant memories of high school; advanced calculus-a subject feared by many-was seamlessly delivered through interactive lessons that were not only cogent, but remarkably enjoyable. Mr. Groden’s impressive qualifications and comforting relatability are matched only by the endless amount of energy he devotes to seeing his students achieve their goals. Mr. Groden sets the standard for the ideal teacher-excited yet relaxed, encouraging yet caring."

Adam S.

"As a student who took many advanced classes throughout high school, I always had high expectations of the teachers who taught them. When I found I would be taking AP Calculus AB and BC with Mr.Groden, I was sure I was in good hands; based on reviews by his previous students , he was the best there was. After one year in class, Mr.Groden lived up to and exceeded my expectations of a teacher. Not only did he keep the class interesting and focused, he also made himself available outside of class to help students fully understand the material. His first concern was always about his students, and he wanted to do everything he could to help them learn. Now, after one year of college, I can honestly say that Mr.Groden had an instrumental part in my success in my upper level math courses. Throughout my year with Mr.Groden, he taught me many valuable things that have helped me succeed."

"I never truly considered myself a "math person" until I took AP Calculus with Mr. Groden. He's an excellent teacher - it's clear how much he cares about helping his students and watching them succeed. Calculus is not an easy subject; I often needed some extra help to fully understand concepts, and Mr. Groden happily met with me after school whenever I asked. He would try his absolute best to answer all of my questions, coming up with new examples for me and making sure I fully understood each problem before moving on to the next. He made Calculus enjoyable even though it was challenging, and I began to appreciate the subject's complexity more and more as the semester went on. I really appreciate everything Mr. Groden did for me as a student, and I would recommend him to anyone."

"Mr Groden is by far the best teacher that I’ve ever had. His classes are not only informative but fun! He makes calculus seem feasible and he instilled a love of math in me that I still possess today. He teaches each concept in a clear and engaging manner, utilizing visuals so that all students can easily understand. He also pairs real world application with each concept so that the material seems accessible and relevant. He has a positive and passionate attitude towards math that is truly contagious. All questions are welcomed in his class- he has a remarkable patience for all students and he sorts through any confusion with ease. Mr. Groden is a gem; his wonderful personality and his hands-on teaching style leave a lasting impact on his students. It’s because of him that I am going into the math-related field of computer science!"

"Mr. Groden is a fantastic teacher. I took Mr. Golden’s AP Calculus BC class in eleventh grade and, as an engineering student at the Johns Hopkins University, I use the calculus skills that he taught me almost daily and have a very firm grasp of the material even years later. He makes learning fun and interactive in a way that almost no other teacher can, and his enthusiasm and passion made me passionate and interested in a subject that is often taught in a lackluster and boring way. Mr. Groden went out of his way to make learning calculus fun, exciting, and challenging rather than being a dull chore like so many classes are. At the same time, he taught me valuable skills and knowledge that I still remember distinctly because of the engaging way in which he taught it and his excellent method of explaining concepts and soliciting input and interaction from his students. I can honestly say that Mr. Groden was the best and most passionate math teacher that I have had."

Alex K.

"Mr. Groden is one of the most dedicated teachers that I have ever had. He was my AP Calculus teacher, and I attribute much of my success in that class to his devotion to his students. He broke difficult concepts down and explained them with clarity. He was always available to provide extra help and support to his students. I would recommend him as a math tutor to anyone. He not only always believed in me, but inspired me to believe in myself and my mathematical abilities. Mr. Groden is in every definition an exceptional teacher."

Amanda R.

"Mr. Groden is a teacher who really cares about his students. He is personally invested in your success, no matter who you are or what level you start at,and he will go the extra mile to help you learn because your growth as a student is what matters most to him. I had Mr. Groden for calculus in high school, and he was my favorite teacher. He was always knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter, and I was more excited to learn knowing that he would be teaching. He has a way of explaining complicated concepts that makes them easy to understand, and he does it with an ease that tells you he was meant for this job. Mr. Groden is energized by students who are excited to learn, and his enthusiasm is contagious: he has a way of making even the most uninterested students excited about learning. He's approachable to the point where any student would feel comfortable staying after class to ask a question, and he's friendly enough that he can talk to you about anything. He cares about you as a student and as a person, and that really shows in the way he approaches teaching and in the way he interacts with his students."

"We want to thank you for giving our son a renewed confidence in pre-calculus and math as a whole. He had felt so overwhelmed and you were able to not only present the concepts in a fun fashion that he could more easily relate to and grasp but have given him the tools he needs to be successful in raising his grade and confidence. He is now embracing a subject he has quite honestly feared in the past. Could not be happier to have sought your help when we did."

"I highly recommend Matt Groden for his tutoring services in math. My son is a junior at Pennsbury High School and just completed precalculus. He "survived" the first quarter of the class with a B. However, on the first test in the second quarter, he received a D. This was very concerning and I immediately sought out tutoring options. After contacting two other tutors from the guidance listing, I was lead to Mr. Matt Groden. Upon contacting Matt (he likes to be called "Matt", but is fine with "Mr. Groden" as well), it was determined that our schedules did not match up. Matt was not about to give up, however. He found a way to accommodate our time constraints and we began utilizing his services at that point. Upon Matt's first visit (yes...he came to our home), he made "son" feel very comfortable and worked to uncover "son's" interests. Matt worked those interests into his lessons so that "son" would be more eager to learn. In addition, Matt offered up his cell number so that "son" could text him ANY TIME "son" had a question, needed additional practice problems, or was just plain confused. Although we have not yet received "son's" final grade in Precalculus, I know that he would not have done as well if not for the help of Matt. Following "son's" first quarter test grade of D, he ended with an 84% going into the final exam. To me, that is a huge success and show if immense improvement."

Kristin L.

"Matt was such a helpful and wonderful tutor. He gets to know you, and uses real life examples that pertain to your life to help you better understand the information. He is very understanding and does not get annoyed or try to move on if you do not understand the material. Great person overall and would strongly recommend him for anyone!"

"I had Mr. Groden as my AP Calculus teacher back in high school. I am now a junior at the University of Michigan, and I can say without a doubt that he is one of the best teachers I have ever had. At first, calculus was not a subject that came easily to me, but Mr. Groden did an excellent job breaking down the material and explaining the subject matter in a clear manner. Yet, most importantly, he made learning fun. His class was always the one that I would be most looking forward to during the day, and I certainly miss having him as a teacher. His instruction in AP Calculus helped me (and the rest of the class) get a very good score on the AP test and inspired me to continue studying math in college. I am certain that I would not be successfully pursing a major in computer science with a minor in mathematics at Michigan without Mr. Groden."

Jason M.

"Mr. Groden was my teacher for AP Calculus AB and BC, as well as my coach for the Mathletics team. I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher. He’s enthusiastic and passionate about mathematics, which inspires the same in his students. Mr. Groden is incredibly knowledgeable, and he knows what he’s teaching inside and out. He’s always able to answer any sort of question a student has, whether it’s a question that examines the material at face value or one that makes connections on a deeper level. He is approachable and has a great sense of humor. Mr. Groden leads his students to success, and anyone would be lucky to have him as a teacher."

Jenna L.

"I had Mr. Groden for AP Calculus my junior year of high school. I learned a lot in that class. Not only was Mr. Groden knowledgeable about the course material, but about the AP Exam itself. After having seen several years’ worth of released exams, he knew which topics were likely to be covered and therefore which problems we should be practicing. I remember coming out of the exam confident. In particular, there was not a single free response that we had not practiced and that I did not know how to answer. Because of Mr. Groden, I was able to get a 5 on the exam. Mr. Groden is a very friendly teacher who genuinely cares about his students and really makes an effort to ensure that they truly understand the course material. Students really like and respect him. He is one of the most highly regarded teachers at Pennsbury."
