This website will contain the family history of
William Augustine Priestley (b.1871) and
Kate Campbell (b.1872).
The aim is to
provide whanau with an on-going record of our family's journey through time and
an up to date record of our whakapapa.
It is hoped that this will
help us maintain strong ties to our tipuna
enlighten us on our rich ethnic heritage
enable us to form stronger ties with each other and
give everyone a genuine sense of belonging
Kate and William
It is hoped that this website will become a fitting tribute to those who came before us. For without them, we would not be.
We therefore ask the current descendants of William and Kate to contribute toward this website so that these hopes may be kept alive for our future generations.
All the information, photographs and anecdotes for this website are being gathered and submitted by various family members for the benefit of us all. Without this foresight, these treasures may eventually be lost to us. Therefore, our sincerest thanks must go to those of you who are meticulously gathering and generously supplying information for this project.
This collaboration of dedication and aroha however, is not only restricted to these few family members... Each of us knows (or knows someone) with a little family history and therefore we urge everyone to make a conscious effort to contribute to this website and whakapapa for the benefit of all our future generations.
The hope is that this will eventually be a wealth of interesting family knowledge that will be preserved and shared for years to come. We will try to keep the presentation simple, so that both our younger and "not so young" family members will be able to navigate, read and enjoy their walk down memory lane.
With the many families and individuals that have stemmed down from William and Kate, it would be impossible to undertake a task of this kind without the odd error and omission occurring. For these we apologise and will endeavour to correct them as soon as they are discovered.
It is fitting that we dedicate this website to the union of Charles Priestley (b.1826) and Taraipine Tatua (b.1841).
To Charles, for his bravey in coming halfway around the world from England to the far away colony of New Zealand and for giving us much of our english blood. Without his dedication to his wife, there is every chance neither he or his children would have stayed in Aotearoa.
To Taraipine for her aroha in taking in this Englishman who was a bit of a handful and for giving us much of our maori blood. Apparently it was she who insisted that the family stayed together in Aotearoa rather than seeing the children go back to England.
An Englishman and a māori princess. Without this union and their commitment to each other, there simply wouldn't be any of us Priestley's in New Zealand today.
Tihei Mauri Ora! - This was the beginning of our history in Aotearoa...

We are a whanau focused entity so access to this website and the whakapapa database is free and will remain free. The database is independent of any other genealogy sites therefore, the information within it will not be on sold (as commercial sites do). The websites are also advert free and we hope to keep them that way.
However, to keep this information stored online does come at a monetary cost ($5 per month). To help us keep these websites running, we gratefully accept koha (recommended $5-$10 pa)
