Walnuts

Here is a method for shelling walnuts: First, heat them in the oven for 10 or 15 minutes until the outer part of the husks becomes dry. Then let the walnuts cool down, and poke holes all around the husks with a tool. Then put the walnuts in the oven again and heat them until the husks are thoroughly heated; this may take 20 or so minutes. The holes in the husks will help the husks to dry out. Leave the walnuts until the next morning. The husks should be dry by then. Then you can hit a husk with a hammer and it will come off without staining everything.
