A Brief Writeup

Educated in India and The United States of America, Professor Siddhartha Pratim Chakrabarty, has been a faculty at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, since 2007. Professor Chakrabarty read Mathematics at undergraduate and master’s level at the prestigious St. Stephen's College, Delhi. During his masters he was awarded the highly competitive National Board for Higher Mathematics Scholarship. He subsequently earned another masters and a doctorate degree in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a top public university in United States. While pursuing his doctorate, he was awarded the Provost’s Award for Graduate Research. Upon his return to India in 2006, he took up the position of a Visiting Fellow at Centre for Applicable Mathematics of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Bangalore. He has also been a visiting faculty at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. His areas of interest include Mathematical Finance and Mathematical Biology. He has several dozen important academic publications in leading international journals and conference proceedings in these areas. In addition, he is deeply passionate about teaching a diverse range of subjects including the areas of Financial Engineering, Mathematical Finance, Portfolio Theory, Financial Risk Management, Computational Finance, Algorithmic and High Frequency Trading, Corporate Finance and Sustainable Finance. He has had the accomplishment of teaching courses in a Science Department, an Engineering School, a Humanities Department and a Business School, in a single Academic Year. He has supervised four (and currently supervising four doctoral thesis and has supervised numerous bachelors and masters students, who have gone on to secure prestigious positions in academia, data science, entrepreneurship, investment banking and public service, both in India, as well as overseas. He has also lectured at important conferences like the annual meeting of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), the India Finance Conference, as well as at various departmental seminars. He has been invited to review for front-line international journals, doctoral thesis and grant proposals and serves on the Editorial Board of three international scientific journals. An avid organizer of outreach events, Professor Chakrabarty, has organized major events including a satellite workshop of the International Congress of Mathematicians, held for the first time in India in 2010. He has held various administrative positions like faculty-in-charge for Placements and the founding faculty advisor for the first student chapter of SIAM in all of Asia. Professor Chakrabarty is a recipient of the faculty scholarship of Reserve Bank of India and is currently a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications, UK.
