Originally the portable document format (PDF) was created to provide a file format to exchange information without the need to have the same document software than the author. Later it was extended to also support features for presentations (e.g. rudimentary effects). The clear advantage when publishing a presentation as PDF is that most of the pitfalls mentioned in distribution as PPT (or any other native format) are avoided by default.
Nevertheless there are still some - so please check your converted presentation (all slides) before giving it away:
The first typical mistake is to disable effects or that the exporting program is not able to also export effects. I am glad for the latter in most cases... But some presenters prefer to hide parts of their slide first with the help of boxes and reveal them later during their talk. Thus, it is important to check if these boxes are existent in the exported file or if the information are visible, respectively. Otherwise it might look like the following and does not help at all:
The second mistake is to use the wrong "paper size" when exporting. In this case the page is not fully filled with the content of a slide but has (ugly) empty space around it. Imagine I want to print the slides for some reason. When they are exported in a correct format, I usually can print up to 8 slides per page. But with a page boarder on every page usually I just print at maximum 4 slides per page because the content becomes to small to read and there will be a lot of unused white space on the resulting print.
