SPACE
There is space to the west of me
space to the east of me
This morning Jake went to get a paper at the grocery. He came home at sundown and said nothing.
I said, “Where were you?”
He said, “Many times I tried to call. Where were you?”
There is space to the right of me
space to the left of me
I told him:
“ My bones ache.”
There is space in front of me
space in back of me
Late at night he said to me,
“I tried to win some money to take you for a vacation. But now my wallet is empty.”
There is space above me
space below me
I am not ready to go away yet
The winter sleet will tell me when to go.
