Человек - заплаканный. Кот - подслеповат.
С неба крупкой сеется дождевой нектар.
Кот желает на руки. Он устал и стар.
Обнял кот хозяина, словно тёплый плед.
Каждому из парочки - по тринадцать лет.
Смесью гари с ужасом полон материк,
в самом центре коего - мальчик и старик.
Двое - в полутемени муторного сна.
Близких всех на радугу увела война.
И плывут по городу сквозь туман и дым
двое тихих выживших, ставшие одним.
Кто бы охранил тебя от земных невзгод,
коточеловеческий человекокот...
In the most-recent bombings, his house was leveled flat.
The man now roams the city together with his cat.
Today such grief is plentiful – it isn’t hard to find.
The man himself is teary-eyed. The cat is partly blind.
The sky above is scattering small kernels of the rain.
The cat wants to be carried. He’s old and rather drained.
The cat clings to his owner and doesn't disengage.
Each member of this twosome is thirteen years of age.
A mix of smog and terror spreads through the land destroyed,
and in the midst of all of it – the elder and the boy.
They wander in the twilight of this despondent dream.
The war transposed their loved ones into a sunlit scene.
Through veils of smoke and haze, they’re drifting on and on, -
two gentle meek survivors forever fused as one.
May someone shield you from the pain and the misfortune that
surrounds you, fragile cat-o-man, enfeebled man-o-cat...
