Что ветру говорят кусты,
листом бедны?
Их речи, видимо, просты,
но нам темны.
Перекрывая лязг ведра,
скрипящий стул -
"сегодня ты сильней. Вчера
ты меньше дул."
А ветер им - "грядет зима!"
"О, не губи."
А может быть - схожу с ума!"
"Люби! Люби!"
И в сумерках колотит дрожь
мой мезонин...
Их диалог не разберешь,
пока один.

What do the bushes tell the wind,
All bare, alas?
It must be simple to take in,
Just not by us.
The pail’s clanking now gives way,
The screeching chair -
“Today, you’re stronger. Yesterday
Could not compare.”
The wind responds – “winter is here!”
“Be merciful.”
Or maybe it’s - “I’m mad, you see!”
“Love on! You fool!”
My attic trembles from each gust
Until the dawn…
Their dialogue cannot be grasped,
While you're alone.
