To the beloved

To the beloved
Do not send a loving dove my way,
Restless letters do not write to me,
With the March wind, don’t disturb my peace.
I have entered a green heaven yesterday,
Where the body and the soul find serenity
Underneath the tent of the poplar trees.
And from here, I see a town shimmering,
Sentries and barracks by the palace there,
With a yellow Chinese bridge up above the ice.
For three hours, you awaited me, - shivering,
Wouldn’t let yourself wander down the stairs,
Only marveling at the starry skies.
As a gray squirrel, I’ll ascend the alder tree.
As a frightened swallow, I will scurry past,
As a swan, I’ll call all throughout the day,
So the frightened groom doesn’t shrink timidly,
In the azure snow that is whirling fast,
As he waits for his dead fiancée.
