Giving Back

New London Food Pantry Feeds Hundreds For the Holidays—Thanks To Volunteers and Donations

We care about our community and so do our hosts and players!

We like to find a different way each year to give something back to the community that's helped us build our business. Got some ideas for what we can do in 2020? We're always open to suggestions. Email us if you've got something in mind!

CHARITABLE DONATIONS 2019

In 2019 we were again proud sponsors of the Mystic Irish Parade. And it was Trivia Kevin's first year as parade announcer alongside long-time Mystic Irish Parade Announcer Dave Doyle. The pair are slated to work together again for the 2020 parade on March 22nd. Swing by the area where Water & West Main Streets meet for the details about each contingent and some bonus laughs!

As in previous years we donated 2% of TriviAcademy's gross revenue to organizations we're proud to support, including CarbonFund.org, Natural Resources Defense Council, New London Area Food Pantry, and West Side Middle School PTO.

This year we also donated to World Central Kitchen and Team Rubicon in order to further their efforts in Abaco, Bahamas in the wake of Hurricane Dorian's total devastation of Marsh Harbour, a beautiful town full of warm, welcoming people that's very dear to our hearts. We will continue to give in 2020 as there is still a LOT of work to be done to get the Abacos up and running again. #AbacoStrong

CHARITABLE DONATIONS 2018

2018 was our first year as proud sponsors of the Mystic Irish Parade. It was a fun and festive way to give back to the community!

As in 2016 & 2017 we donated 2% of TriviAcademy's gross revenue to organizations we're proud to support, including CarbonFund.org, Natural Resources Defense Council, New London Area Food Pantry, and West Side Middle School PTO.

CHARITABLE DONATIONS 2017

In the first half of 2017, we focused on the youth of Groton, CT as these are the kids that TriviAcademy owner Kevin Larrow is honored to be teaching.

As in 2016 we donated 2% of TriviAcademy's gross revenue, distributed among four organizations whose work we value highly: CarbonFund.org, Natural Resources Defense Council, New London Area Food Pantry, and Sierra Club Foundation in the latter half of 2017.

CHARITABLE DONATIONS 2016

Last year we donated 2% of TriviAcademy's gross revenue (yes, that's 2% off the top before we subtract expenses like host pay, American-made supplies, equipment, etc.) to charity.

  • One portion went to offsetting Kevin and his lovely wife Jennifer's collective carbon footprint and TriviAcademy's footprint via CarbonFund.org. It's simple and not as expensive as you'd think, so go check it out!
  • Another portion went to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). The NRDC works to safeguard the earth - its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends (that includes trivia-loving homo sapiens sapiens like you and us!).
  • The final portion went to the Sierra Club Foundation. Their support of the public education and conservation projects funded by grants from the Sierra Club Foundation will help continue its efforts to preserve wilderness and protect environmental quality worldwide through a powerful combination of public education, environmental litigation, grassroots training, publishing, and research.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE (2016)

Just like we did in 2013, we asked teams to bring in either one non-perishable food item or one dollar per person on their team in exchange for five bonus points. Our hardworking hosts and generous players helped us raise 100 non-perishable items and $213 dollars for the New London Area Food Pantry!

MONEY FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH (2014)

Throughout October 2014 we pledged $1.00 per team that plays (every time they play) at any of our campuses to the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, an organization that gives 100% of their GROSS fundraising dollars directly to research. Between those pledged dollars, a matching pledge from Laurie & Jonathan Schweitzer, and cash donations from many generous teams we raised $600 for this great cause!

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE (2013)

One November week in 2013, teams were asked (ahead of time, of course) to bring in either one non-perishable food item or one dollar per person on their team in exchange for five bonus points. We had 100% participation thanks to the generous folks who play TriviAcademy and were able to donate two trunk-fulls of fresh and non-perishable food to the New London Area Food Pantry.
