I am a Theatre and Media Arts double major in the South Carolina Honors College. I will be graduating in May 2015 with Leadership Distinction in Research.
The arts have always been an important part of my life, both in theatre and visual art. During my time at USC I have grown tremendously as an artist. My classes and my experiences in my student job as a lighting technician for the Theatre department and designing lights for shows including The 39 Steps and How I Learned to Drive have had a huge impact on how I approach my work and how I think about myself as an artist. Among my most important discoveries are the importance of a structured creative process, my deep love of storytelling, and the interdisciplinary nature of creativity. I have explored what it means to be a female artist in today's world and discovered what that means to me personally. In my e-portfolio, I go into detail about the experiences which have led to these conclusions.
I do not know exactly where I am headed after graduation, but I do know that where ever I go and whatever twists and turns my career may take, I will always carry with me these insights that I've gained and the knowledge that I am an artist. All of the experiences I discuss here will provide me with confidence in my skills as I move forward, regardless of where life takes me.
