Research

• Laser ablated plasmas are frequently used in industry for synthesis of fullerene, growth of thin films viz. metal thin films, ZnO, carbon nitride and diamond like carbon coatings (DLC) on various substrates, nanoparticle formation, and harmonic generation
• Carbon nanoparticles formed by laser ablation have a wide range of applications, for example, it is used in opto-electronic devices, as dyes in paint, filler in rubber, biomedical - applications, protective layers for polymers, and metal free catalysts etc.
• Laser produced plasma is a potential source of ions which can be extracted from the plasma using suitable charged particle optics
• Carbon ion beam is more effective in destroying the tumour tissue compared to protons beam/radiation therapy.

(i) Developed diagnostics techniques for the study of laser produced colliding and single plasmas.

(ii) Investigated colliding plasma plumes and single plasma plumes using 2-D imaging, OES, Shadowgraphy and Interferometry

(iii) Synthesised nanoparticle/nanostructures

(iv) Studied plume splitting and ion acceleration as a function of laser fluence
