In this apparatus, muons from cosmic ray showers enter the detector, some stop, and die. I kid you not. They make a blip on entry and another on death. We detect those blips and do simple data analysis.
The manual is below. Here are your tasks:
1. Read the physics on pages 3 to 14.Â
2. Reproduce the graphs on the oscilloscope in figs 9 and 10 on page 18.
3. Perform step 4 on Page 31
4. Perform step 5 on Page 32
5. Perform step 6 on Page 32
6. Perform step 7 on Page 32
7. Perform step 8 on Page 32
8. Perform step 9 on Page 32
The bottom line is know how this instrument works and get the lifetime of the muon.
The software is well described, but a bit clunky. Maybe some bright spark double major can write a better interface in python.
