LETTERING REQUIREMENTS FOR CHORAL MUSIC AT PALISADE HIGH SCHOOL
To letter in choral music, students are responsible for fulfilling the following requirements with proper documentation. Documentation of the fulfilled requirements is turned in to the instructor by mid-April.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL CHORAL STUDENTS:
· A positive attitude and a positive influence are a must.
· Attend all choral department concerts, festivals, and contests.
· Earn an above average to excellent grade in choir with proficiency in music theory, ear-training and sight singing.
· Be an active participant with fund-raising activities.
· Be an active participant of the annual PHS musical whether through auditioning and performing or technical work or ticket sales/promotion/ushering.
· Participate in the school district’s Solo/Ensemble Festival as well as the Winter Vocal Recital at PHS.
· Five hours of service to the choral music department. (Concert set-up/strike, concert preparation, music library, etc.)
FRESHMEN ADD THE FOLLOWING:
· Prepare audition material and audition for an ACDA or SWACDA Honor Choir.
· Perform audition solo at the Fall Vocal Recital.
· Attend at least one music performance (preferably choral) outside of Palisade High School. (A program and/or ticket is/are needed from the performance to document your attendance.)
SOPHOMORES ADD THE FOLLOWING:
· Participate in the Pre-All State Choir Mock Audition to prepare you for your All-State Choir Audition as a junior and a senior (attend preparation rehearsals).
· Perform audition solo at the Fall Vocal Recital.
· Prepare audition material and audition for an ACDA or SWACDA Honor Choir.
· Attend at least two music performances (preferably choral) outside of Palisade High School. (A program and/or ticket is/are needed from the performance to document your attendance.)
· Perform at least once outside of Palisade High School (vocal solo, duet, etc. at church or voice lesson recital, etc.) (A program from the concert is needed to document your performance.)
JUNIORS ADD THE FOLLOWING:
· Participate in the Pre-All State Choir Mock Audition to prepare you for your All-State Choir Audition as a junior and a senior (attend preparation rehearsals).
· Audition for All-State Choir. (If selected, add rehearsals and performances.)
· Perform audition solo at the Fall Vocal Recital.

· Attend at least three music performances (preferably choral) outside of Palisade High School. (A program and/or ticket is/are needed from the performance to document your attendance.)
· Perform at least twice outside of Palisade High School (vocal solo, duet, etc. at church or voice lesson recital, etc.) (A program from the concert is needed to document your performance.)
SENIORS ADD THE FOLLOWING:
· Participate in the Pre-All State Choir Mock Audition to prepare you for you All-State Choir Audition (attend preparation rehearsals).
· Audition for All-State Choir. (If selected, add rehearsals and performances.)
· Perform audition solo at the Fall Vocal Recital.
· Prepare audition material and audition for an ACDA or SWACDA Honor Choir.
· Audition for All-State Jazz Choir. (If selected, add rehearsals and performances.)
· Attend at least four music performances (preferably choral) outside of Palisade High School. (A program and/or ticket is/are needed from the performance to document your attendance.)
· Perform at least three times outside of Palisade High School (vocal solo, duet, etc. at church or voice lesson recital, etc.) (A program from the concert is needed to document your performance.)
CHORAL LETTERS, PINS, AND MEDALLIONS
· Freshmen who letter will receive a maroon and white “P” letter.
· Sophomores who letter will receive a treble clef pin with a two-year participation pin.
· Juniors who letter will receive a three-year participation pin and a star pin.
· Seniors who letter will receive a four-year participation pin and a medallion.
OTHER PINS THAT CAN BE EARNED
· Students who participate in solo/ensemble and earn a Superior rating will receive a pin.
· Students who participate in Colorado Choral Directors Select Honor Choir will receive a pin.
· Students who participate in All-State Jazz Choir will receive a pin/medal.
· Students who participate in All-State Choir will receive a pin/medal.
END OF YEAR
· At the end of the year, the student will put together a list of his/her lettering accomplishments in a resume-like document with all of the required programs/tickets attached.
· The student’s lettering packet will be reviewed and returned to them by the instructor.
· Results of lettering will be announced and awarded at the Performing Arts Department Awards Night in May.
