Course Descriptions

MISSION STATEMENT

To provide a quality high school choral music education program that offers students instruction and application in reading choral music, music theory, music appreciation, music history, foreign language, and performance.  The choral music program will present intrinsic and extrinsic experiences to students that will offer them the opportunities to grow as young adults with compassion, care, responsibility, accountability, and the abilities to communicate and cooperate.

To create an atmosphere and community in which all members understand the importance of a person’s role within a team whether in a rehearsal or performance setting.  This understanding ensures the quality and excellence of musicality creating a positive, welcoming environment where each members’ passion for music contributes to everyday greatness.  

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Advanced Treble Choir (Aria) Period 1                                                                                                            

This auditioned course is intended for treble singers who have demonstrated an advanced-level musical ability and a desire for advanced instruction and performance in choral singing.  Three, four-part, and multi-part literature of many genres will be studied.  Music theory, sight singing, and ear-training instruction are provided.  Public performances outside of class are a requirement of this co-curricular course as well as everyday attendance and participation. 

Intermediate Treble Choir (Chantez!) Period 2

This auditioned course is intended for treble singers who have demonstrated an intermediate-level musical ability and a desire for advanced instruction and performance in choral singing.  Unison, two-part, and three-part literature of many genres will be studied. Music theory, sight singing, and ear-training instruction are provided.  Public performances outside of class are a requirement of this co-curricular course as well as everyday attendance and participation. 

Treble Choir (Voices of Palisade) Period 3

This class is provided for treble singers who wish to become familiar with the fundamentals of choral music.  Unison, two, three-part music will be studied.  Music theory, sight singing, and ear-training instruction are provided.  Public performances outside of class are a requirement of this co-curricular course as well as everyday attendance and participation.

Advanced Mixed Choir (Chamber Singers and Popular Acclaim!) Period 10

This auditioned course is intended for treble, tenor, and bass singers who have demonstrated an advanced-level musical ability and a desire for advanced instruction and performance in choral singing.  Four-part and multi-part literature of many genres will be studied.  Music theory, sight singing, and ear-training instruction are provided.  Public performances outside of class are a requirement of this co-curricular course as well as everyday attendance and participation

Advanced Mixed Show-Jazz Choir 

This auditioned course is an advanced select group of  treble, tenor, and bass singers that will build upon and refine their knowledge of performing in a show (singing/dancing/acting) and jazz (vocal jazz) choir setting.  Students will perform a variety of literature from vocal jazz to music theatre and pop music.  Public performances outside of class are an integral part of this co-curricular course and are required as well as everyday attendance and participation.

Music Theory (Class Piano) Period 7   

Class piano is offered to students who are interested in learning more about playing the piano and exploring or improving his/her/their piano and theory skills.  Students in this class have varied playing experiences and backgrounds.  This class will provide the opportunity for students to better their knowledge about technique, performance, and music theory.

Tenor/Bass Choir (Palisade Tenor/Bass Choir) Period 8   

This class is provided for tenor and bass singers who wish to become familiar with the fundamentals of choral music.  Unison, two, three-part music will be studied.  Music theory, sight singing, and ear-training instruction are provided.  Public performances outside of class are a requirement of this co-curricular course as well as everyday attendance and participation.
