This is my first design-based module that consists of End Course Assignment (ECA). The concept is actually quite similar when I took my Art 'O' Level in 2011. Thankfully, I was not that confused on what to do as I was in my Year 1 and taking ECA for the first time.
The module requires us to do our sketches to show our progress and the final product design. It consist of isometric drawing of given orthographic projection. Adding on to that, we need to draw another two different perspective of the orthographic project.
I was clueless as I did not take Design and Technology (DnT) for my 'O' levels. I did not know what to do and I do not quite understand what the lecturer was saying. Fortunately, I had friends that have prior knowledge to it and they taught me how to do it. Easy said than done, this assignment made me redo many times before I am satisfied with it. The sense of achievement is there when I realised that as I keep redo-ing those sketches, my speed of drawing has increased meaning that I was more clear on what to do. In fact, my friends have confide me on the colours of the drawings as I was more confident on that portion and I gave them some advices.
I could say that I am almost a perfectionist for anything that got to do with designs. Also being an art student for 5 years in secondary school days, I do have high expectations for myself. It was a very good learning experience and also a good bonding session with my friends. This module was not as dry as other theory modules so we had a lot of fun learning.
I think it is important to have this fundamental module before moving on to the more advanced modules as it had taught us the basics of design components and the skills to come up with a design. Once we have built up our fundamentals, we can easily apply it on other design module.
All in all, I got a grade A- for this module. I was happy with the result and I definitely grew a lot in terms of knowledge and skills.
