This module was taken in my Year 1 Semester 2 and before I became a full-time wedding photographer. This module serve to teach us about the basic photography skills which include the settings of camera, composition and compression of files.
In my polytechnic days, my friends and I had a small interest for photography as well as videography. Time to time, we would take up some freelance job to shoot a local fashion blogger as well as shooting some film just for fun. I was a newbie. During the shoot, I had trouble focusing on the subject and no one taught me how neither did I went to google online to find out. I was not as enthusiastic as compare to now. Looking back at the photos, I rate myself a 2 out of 10.
During the first class of this module, I remembered that we were told to bring our own DSLR or digital camera. At that point of time, my only possession was a Canon Powershot digital camera. Though it has limitation compared to a DSLR, I still managed to learn quite a few things. Things I have learnt was especially the settings of the camera which consists the Aperture, ISO and the shutter speed. As I was new to all these terms, I got a little confused time to time. Like which do I adjust when I need to increase the exposure? I was not used to it.
For the assignment given, we had to shoot different scenarios and choose the most suitable lens. I was still clueless because I never had a chance to experience other lenses and it was hard to imagine it. I got my friend who is slightly better than me at photography to help me out with my assignment. We went out and took some shots. I edited those photos with Adobe Lightroom.
Based on where I am right now, a professional photographer, the photos taken is way below my normal standard. If I could use a word to describe, it is a bad. Photos were actually underexposed hence the grains. Perhaps my expectations for myself is very high and I expect myself to improve each time.
All in all, this module at least taught me the fundamentals of photography. I am glad that I have found my current job and got this opportunity to apply whatever I have learnt to my current career.
